Default tuners help!!! engine falls on its face WOT...

I have a built ls/vtec, headwork, cams, victor x, top mount mani, t66 turbo,cs300,... The issue is if i ease into the throttle it will run fine hit vtec and keep reving through the rpms. But the more agressive i am with throttle it will cut out lower on the rpms and trip an engine code just for a second not long enough for s300 to recognise it... ex.- 100% throttle will cut out as soon as it hits vtec 5200, 90% throttle will cut out 5700, 80% will cut out 6200 ect.... only happens under a load.

Thankss

Hook up your engine managetment and turn the key on. put the pedal to the floor and see what you have for a reading on the TPS. im willing to bet it says 0 at wot and 100% and idle. Your tps wires could be backwards

ngk 9heat rating gapped at 20. dont think its blowing the spark out bc i am only hitting around 8lbs... and the tps reads 100% at wot we recalibrated it and even checked to make sure its in the .5-4.5 range...once it cuts out if i back off and give it throttle again it will pickup..

Hmm. and your boost cut is obviously turned up so thats not it. What map sensor are you running? Your reading 8 psi in the s300 or on a gauge? What chassis is the car? Any chance you hear a clicking from the dash?

if your not running lean, can you hold into it and keep the CEL on long enough for the s300 to pickup on it?

sounds like it's leaning out, did you check the 02 sensor reading. what is the wideband doing? what fuel injectors?

i am running the hondata 4bar. the gauge is reading around 5lbs, s300 around 8ish. Its in a crx chassis. i dont hear any distinct clicking coming from the dash..its alil noisey inside with the solid mounts and 3inch exhaust.. i did not try staying in it long enough to see if the cel stays on i generally back out. i can try that tho and see what happens. the wideband looks pretty good fairly constant....the injectors are precision 1000.

Thanks for all the input..

stayed on the gas when it cut out and the cel stays on but it wont kick out a code. when i leave off the throttle it will go off almost instantly and then the engine picks up again...hmm

I would suggest trying a known working dizzy if you haven't already.

I have had brand new distributors on cars here at the shop that fail right out of the box. They would run the car ok at partial throttle but any kind of load and the car would break up. It is unfortunately a very common problem.

Really sounds like the car is going into limp mode which it shouldnt. Hmm that just made me think. Do you have any protections on through the s300? for whatever reason when i try and run a protection on my s300 it does what your experiencing reguardless of what i set the perameters. if you have any protections on then turn them off, watch the wideband and try it out.

Just for the heck of it, whats your coolant temps look like? S300 will do this sort of thing if your running hot too

A friend's car had a similar issue. After 2 weeks of work I came over and suggested starting from the bottom and doing compression/leakdown/BOOST LEAK tests. Turns out he had a ripped coupler, and the more throttle he gave it, the worse it would leak. Replaced it and he was doing rippers next run with the same tune.

Now that I look at your first post again, check your VTEC settings & maps. With less throttle, vtec activates later. If it's a vtec issue, then it will start higher in the rpm's with less throttle... I did a reverse thing before, somehow I reverted the low-cam timing map to stock. Would bog at WOT unless I downshifted into vtec...sometimes tuning vtec sucks.

what are the afr's when this happen? try to gap your plugs down to 18 and see if it helps. log all your runs so you can look back at them when the issue happens after you stop driving

If you do a non vtec high rpm run is it ok? This can be an oil pressure problem. Do you have the vtec and turbo oil feed both coming off the oil pressure switch location? If so u need to get the vtec oil feed from one of those sandwich plate adapters like golden eagle.

if you do a vtec off rpm run dont rev past 7k. you can damage the valvetrain

okay well i tried a friends dizzy didnt make a diff. did a run with all the protection off still nothing. jon from innovative motorworks sent me a new map that richened it up a fair amount so its not even close to lean. i took my vtec soliniod off to fix an oil leak and the wire from the jumper harness i got was barely still crimped on, also the screan in the soliniod had some debris in it. did a few other changes and havent tried it since...
