VIR in February with NASA, HPDE tires..
ok guys, running an HPDE3 with NASA in February. we've only been as early as march before, and as far as i know it snowed a while last year.. here's my options:
BFG Touring T/A all seasons (we'll be driving down on these anyways)
used RT-615 Azenis (195/60-14)
used Yoko A032R's..(205/50-15)
i'm just wondering if it's worth it to run the R comps. we have a light, way underpowered (especially for the VIR back straight) 94 miata.. i don't think we'll be able to work enough heat into the R comps for them to be useful compared to even the Azenis..
what do you guys think? obviously it definitely depends on the actual temperatures and precipitation that does occur, but just trying to get an idea ahead of time. thanks!

u might wanna bring snows for feb VIR
its definitely possible to get heat in the r-comps (think: spec-miata) but going out on streets at least for the first couple sessions if its cold out wouldn't be a bad idea. bring the azenis.

so consensus so far is pretty much stick with the Azenis and save the R comps for warmer weather? i mean, i assume that the R comps could warm up eventually, but probably would take about 5-6 laps. they were taking about 3-4 laps at Shenandoah in November during the morning sessions..
it's actually my wife driving. she'll be at the instructor clinic, also. we are staying at the inn keeper!! woot!! i'll be taking pictures as usual.

Why not bring both and run them as the weather develops? It'd be a shame to miss out on using them if the weather wound up being nice.

tire trailer is only so big. will not fit 2 sets of tires, just one.
so i will for sure have the all seasons, just because they are decent to drive down on.. just wondering what extra set i should pack.

Where are you coming from? Drive down on the Azenis and carry the r's. Have driven 3-4 hours from VA Beach in years past with no problem.
strasburg.. would be not a very fun drive if it rained at all. or worse, snowed. i mean, i'll have to look at the weather obviously before going down..
I'll also be down @ VIR in Feb.. planning on bringing my RE11's but would also have the BFGoodridge Traction T/A's that I am driving down on...
far from rule.....bone stock 4 dr integra with 225k miles....its my daily.
My 240sx isnt finished its winter makeover so i wont be able to come down and roll the vetts with ya, sorry, but i will be instructing nonetheless.
I like the Innkeeper too. Decent place with good room rates.
she has done one event with them. but she does know to warm them up too. and it won't be her first time at VIR either.. and she will be sitting in on the instructor clinic.. hopefully becoming an instructor in march.
scary doesn't quite capture it
i've done that from Fredericksburg to Centreville once.. oh yeah, and the miata with a trailer i'm sure would handle slightly different than your ef.. hehe.
