93 del sol, Fan speed knob doesn't fit right

93 del sol, Fan speed **** doesn't fit right
I ordered an OEM replacement climate control fan speed **** for my del sol but it doesn't fit. I had to stuff a piece of cloth in the **** to get it to half-*** fit onto the switch. Is there a piece i'm missing that fits in between the **** and the switch?
