Default da keeps dying, any help??

Hey guys! I hope I can get some help. Alright so within the last week my car has been acting really weird, specifically for it not wanting to start up and keep running. I used to turn the key and I would hear it crank, but it didn't start up. So, I replaced the starter and got new one. So now it starts up fine, it just can't keep running.

When I try to start up my car, I turn the key through the first two clicks and it's fine, but as I turn it that third time for it to start, it starts up only to die shortly after (when I release the key for it to go back to its normal resting position). This happens every time. I start it and as soon as I let go of the key it just dies.

THE WEIRD THING IS, that once I start it, if I continue to hold the key in that third position (not grinding the starter), my car will stay on. It's as if nothing has happened. As a matter of fact, I even had to drive it like that for a short distance to get back home. It was unbelievably awkward having to hold the key while driving, but the fact is I made it home just fine and dandy. When holding the key though, as soon as you let go of it, it dies.

What could this be?? I've been doing some research and I've come to the conclusion that it could be the ignition switch, but I'm not positive. If it were the ignition switch, would I also have to switch the whole ignition including the part where I put the key in? I really don't wanna have to get a new key.

Here's some screenshots from the Helm's Factory Service Manual for my da that specifically talk about the ignition switch.

Do you guys agree that it could be the ignition switch??? I don't want to go down the road of buying parts that won't fix the problem. Any help would be great. Thanks!

okay I had this same exact problem and it is not the starter or the the ignition switch it was the starter relay... which you will find behind the radio/center console... you have to remove your knee panel on the passenger side, the center console and the radio to get to it... possibly the glove box too just to have easier access... and you will find it bolter to the dash supports next to the heater core... I will try and find you some pics of it... but I do know that there is a write up on g2ic on how to find it... g/l hope this helps you out

Hey thanks for your advice!
But it was actually indeed the ignition switch. I ordered one because everyone was telling me that it was that, so i just went for it. But it arrived today, and i installed it right after! Car starts up every time and runs like a champ (just like it used to). Im just glad i have my da back haha
