Default B20 VTEC VS. GSR??????

So I got a type R tranny sitting down @ the house..Considering to buy a b20 for 5 bills n buy a head n da other little necessitys to make sure my motor runs rite(head studs, rod bolts..etc) Im not really tryna to do any internal work b/c this car will be my d.d. for awhile n im looking for reliability

Also considering a GSr swap but buying it frm a shop(2000 n up) is a lil out of my budget n buying it frm somebody on da street always run da risk of dem tryna duck n selling u a "Nice looking but f'cked up motor"..Jus looking for sum input

Good Looking Out

Sorry, didn't know my H2B 4th gen write up made me an idiot, but at least I can speak clearly and coherently.

Do some research before you ask questions. There are hundreds of threads like this that get locked every day because it's been asked so many times.

OP if you are looking for reliability do not go with any form of hybrid unless you have the money to spend to make it reliable...either do the b20 or b18c1...and also you should probably learn to respect the people that provide valuable information to the Honda community.

Def. do respect people who provide information, only when respect is shown back..just b/c u have 10,000 posts doesn't mean u get to **** on anybody who's asking questions. To those who answered I appreciate it, I have searched but to my personal situation, searching here,b20vtec..etc, I haven't found my answer but like i said before, thank u for the input

i would say b20 vtec personally. Just get your rod bolts, arp headstuds, new gsr oil pump and water pump, as long as you build the motor the right way it'll be ALOT faster than a gsr and will last. My friends b20vtec motor was daily driven and raced and its been running for 5-6 years still running right now. And that has stock rod bolts, and ran a 12.8 in a crx and a 14.0 in a ef wagon. Hope this helps

pretty sure i answered your question...unless you have the money to build an LS or b20 vtec thwe right way, then dont do it. stick with something that is reliable from the factory. There are so many things that you can mess up with a hybrid motor...but if you do it right they can run like a top...do whatever your budget will let you do.

The problem is that your post is hard to read. If people can't/won't construct their posts logically and coherently they don't deserve to have their questions answered. There is really nobody to blame but yourself. Respect always starts with the original poster. If someone is going to write incomplete and run-on sentences and use slang then they deserve to have their post deleted. But this isn't school so that sort of stuff isn’t monitored, and it shouldn't, but your post is the only way people can judge your character and credibility.

B20V is faster but depending on what car you have i think its a pretty expensive build because you need so many different parts to do it right. I have it on my Eg Hatch and with the money i spent on putting just the b20 on my car it cost me as much as buying a complete swap. I couldve bought a type R if i wouldve saved the money

Gotta love these cell phone slang threads. I'm not looking out but any engine is only as good as the money you invest in it. You want reliability then spend your money wisely.

I don't know why people are hating on the op? I mean, i understand that it's slang but man....at all of the honda meets i've ever been to the people spoke with slang. Maybe this person isn't native to the country and believe it or not, it's way easier to learn slang then it is to learn to speak formal. Anyhow back on the topic. I'd look at it this way, if you buy a gsr for 2000 it's going to be used and you have no way of knowing how many miles are on it. If you buy a stock b20 for 500, get yourself a vtec head for 350, then get arp head studs, arp rod bolts, new bearings, piston rings, oil pump, timing belt, ls/vtec oil kit, dowel pins, etc... you'll be close to 2000. The plus side to the 2000 of the b20/vtec is that you'll have better internals, brand new parts, and the satisfaction of building it yourself. Only downside is, if you've never built a motor before then you might be throwing 2000 in the trash because you didn't torque something right and a rod comes loose and game over. Me personally, if it's a dd kinda thing i'd just get a regular b20, rebuild it and drive it. It's a daily driver, does it need to be that fast. i mean, to me b20/vtec with oem parts is still slow. i'm a boost fan. i'd prefer to boost the stock b20 and with 2000 get 4 of them so when one blows u just swap it out lol. Anyhow, good luck to you.

Woww..I haven't looked at my thread in over 2 months..to all who can obviously read what I wrote..thank you..To those who decided to post on my "grammar skills", please find sumthin better to do with your time..The Internet "bashing" isn't my thing So jus leave it alone.

To anyone who is still interested, I ended up buying a jdm Gsr from Hmo and I haven't looked back..The motor runss dammnn hard in my ej6(wonder how many posts would've came in once i said "ek Coupe") With some rmf replica headers, a cai, and a skunk manifold, I've beat 3 B20/Vtecs on the road. Haven't had one problem with it..So to those who were considering like me, unless you have enough knowledge to fix all the little things that may go wrong with a b20/vtec, I would def. recomm. da Gsr..

Highly bless

that was a good decision bro I got a N/A fully built gsr 16K+ in da motor and i have not found another hatch or civic around here that can woop me. I raced a fully built mustang gt 5.0 a few days ago and left him by 3 car lengths from a 20 mph roll HE WAS PISSED

its just the thought of knowing that when your 4cyl can whop fully built 8cyl its just to damn funny LOL

good luck with it all
