Default Mounting Fill Neck of Rad. Below water neck housing of block??

Random question, I am relocating a radiator in my crx and to get the hood clearance I need It seems my only option is to relocate the Rad. off the the bottom of the traction bars.

In doing so The Fill/upper neck of the radiator will sit an inch or two below the the water housing of the block, I know this is not optimally the way the rad. should be set up, but will it cause problems ie, overheating, overworking the water pump etc.

thoughts please

i don't see a problem with it. i think it sucks the coolant from the lower hose anyhow

you should be fine

why don't you think it would be optimal? the flow goes from the head into the rad, so I would think it aided the coolant into the radiator. Either way I don't think it matters because the water pump is doing work on the coolant.

I initially didn't think it would be a problem, then just recently someone brought to my attention (possibly incorrectly) that setting it up this way is an issue

it will be harder to bleed the air out of the cooling system that way. the air will get trapped at the highest point of the cooling system...which would be the cylinder head in your case..attach a tall funnel to the rad filler neck when bleeding the coolant and make sure you get all the air out.

You won't cause any problems as long as you make sure you have proper air flow threw the radiator. As far as the filler being lower than the top of the motor, we use a cooling system filler from Vacula on our race cars that works great. It was about $150 and you can get it from Vacula direct or pretty much any tool truck.
