Good one! about piston rings
So i go to build my b16 81.5mm tonight and started by measuring the oil rings which are good inserted my second compression rings and measure .025 (to big of gap). insert my first compression rings and measure sittin at .016 (thats alright) may go little bigger there. but these two sets of rings should be pretty dam close to each other they are of the shelf pro seal rings from JE. what do you guys think give em a call and try diffrent second rings or build it i know some go that big on their gaps but i dont want all that blow by which they have. (no smart comments from idiots please im trying this site after my failed attempt years ago cause of dumb kids!!! thanx)
all 4 of the 2nd rings are that size? what should the stock gap be? they're usually manufactured with a small gap so you can file it to the size you want. i'd call them and ask wtf.
well there should be a difference between the first and second compression ring gaps, but .025 is kind of large.
if i remember correctly i did .017 and .019 on my built dseries. i think it all depends on what hp goal you are looking at
i would call and ask about the .025 though, either there is a problem with the rings or the machine shop overbored your block
good luck man
