Re-ringing with block in car.
I am curious as to how easy this is, after removing the head I was told you can access the rings through the top of the block. When a cylinder is at TDC (head off) how far above the block does it sit?
I searched a bit and couldnt find anything specific to these sorts of questions. Thanks in advance.

what assembly u talking about?
to the original poster......you need to remove the pistons from the engine to install new rings. this requires you to remove the oil pan, oil pick-up tube, windage tray. then you have to remove the rod nuts/bolts from the rods and push the whole rod/piston out of the engine block.
its not a job for someone who is not experienced....

Crank can stay in. Just remove the oil pan, windage tray and pickup, and then remove rod bolts and caps and push piston up out of block. Upon reinstallation make sure to position the ring gaps in the correct position or you may get excessive blowby.
