I just burned 2 quarts of OIL in 500 miles?
Is that normal????
I checked my OIL on Monday before I took my GF back to school, there was nothing on the stick, so I put 2 quarts of Castrol 5w30 synthetic blend, the trip was a little less than 500 miles, I just checked it now and there is nothing on the stick again. The trip I was averaging about 80-95 mph, this cant be normal.
BTW - About 3 weeks to a month ago I got my Valve Seals replaced to fix the problem, but I dont think that worked.
Does anyone know what I can do?
I know this I dont have an ITR, but you guys are the best help and quickest to respond.
EDIT: Im thinking that I am leaking it, but I havent seen any OIL spots when I move my car?

i don't have an ITR either ...lol...
but did you make sure you let your car sit for along time before you checked the oil? make sure it's not all up in the internals from driving it around/being started up?
your best bet is to check it in the morning..when it's been sitting there alllll night...
but you probably already know that...if not maybe that's the case..

Please tell me you have SOME oil. Otherwise you may have seriously fucked your engine already

i was going thru a serious amount of oil too and i thought it was valve seals, so i left it into the shop to get them done, and my mechanic reckoned it was\seals too as he said the next day that it was smoky started when left lying over night, but he said he'd check the oil rings too, turned out the seals were fine and the oil rings were toast (only 72k on my B18C), so i got the whole lot done. I havent burned/lost a single drop now in over 2000miles

i compared the old seals when he had them out and they were still fairly soft and in good condition, in fact not much difference between them and the new ones put in. If you examine every other possibilty, leaks/bad PCV (although bad PCV wouldnt account for that much loss in oil) then i'd be inclined to think on oil rings
I talked to my mechanic today and he told me that it could be my piston rings, and that my valve walls could be damaged, and if that is the problem, it would be cheaper to get a new engine.
DO you know where I can price new engines?

Regarding the cost of new engine vs rebuild:
Valve wall? wtf is that?
you are better off rebuilding, assuming that your mechanic is competent enough
to rebuild an engine. If done right, you'll get more power along with solving all
of your problems.
yeah I'd go for the rebuild...throw in some higher compression pistons while you are at it.
btw...now that I'm a commuting nerd...on the 80-95mph...if I recall correctly around 87mph is the optimal speed to be at in fifth....just before vtec

becarefull on the rebuild, going to high of a compression on the pistons isnt always the best case, remember having to run octane booster every tank full is a pain in the *** just for pistons, stick to the same compression but aftermarket pistons and sleeve it up youll never go wrong
1st of all, octane booster doesnt work
2nd, sleeves arent necessary for NA apps unless you want to go way overbore
3rd, higher compression always helps, but there are limits.

bear in mind this is a GS-R. Going with R or CTR pistons shouldn't be too hard.
PA has 93 octane, so that shouldn't be a problem. Adding a little Toluene doesn't hurt either ofcourse...although it's probably a waste.

I called the Honda dealer today and the service guy told me that is normal. I said its normal to burn 2 quarts of OIL in 500 miles, his answer was YES, depending on how much you were using VTEC, I also said, so you are saying I could burn 4 quarts in a 1000 miles and he said YES!
When I started my car today and revved it up smoke was coming out of the exhaust again!
Where can I get prices on engines?

first thing is...dont bring your car anywhere near that honda mechanic who told you burning 4 quarts (nearly the full sump) in 1000 miles is normal...he ahs to be an escaped lunatic. secondly it would be cheaper to rebuild your engine. Thats what i done, it cost a total of $1200 for everything-basically every seal/gasket in the head and new oil rings and comp rings, new timing belt and water pump, and the guys even painted my valve cover for m when they were at it. I havent burned a drop of oil since!
