What's better racing? ITE or FP?
Totally loaded question I know..... But I'm just looking for your experience/advice so tell me whatever you think.
I own an 89 civic hatch that I slowly built up for local track days and now I wanna go door to door. The car has an SCCA legal cage and all the required safety equipment to meet IT specs. The car has a B16 and brake upgrades so I'll be put into ITE apparently.
My good buddy is building a CRX for FP and I have to admit the fat slicks and flaired fenders look nice... He is telling me to build mine up for FP because ITE is just a "checkbook" class. What do you guys think about his advice? Do the FP rules make for much better racing than ITE?
If I were near a track that had Honda Challenge races I would just stick with the B motor and brake upgrades, but in New Mexico we don't have many choices......
Thanks for any advice....

As one who moved away from your area, I'd advise checking out NASA, Rocky Mountain region. 3 tracks in CO now. Worth the tow. Great folks . You can run HC, PTE or TT.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Did that chassis (89 Civic) come with that engine (B16)? I do not believe prod rules allow swaps (check the SCCA GCR to be sure). Therefore, if the engine never came in that car, that combination is not prod legal. Also, I do not believe brake upgrades (like larger rotors or fancy calipers) are legal in FP either.
I think you would have to run GT3 or GTL. At a national level might be hard and/or expensive to be competitive in GT3, but GTL would probably fit. At a regional level, I think you could do OK in both.
Look at STU as well, you will fit in there.

They don't allow swaps in Production, so I'll have to put my D-motor back in and go back to stock brakes. No biggie if the racing is "that much better."
The "quality" of the racing will depend on who (if anyone) is racing that class in your region. You should be asking around at your local SCCA region instead of here, in other words.
In Central/Midwest (my region): ITE has almost 0 participation at all and the others (FP, STU, GT3, GTL) are well attended nationally, but lightly attended regionally (from my observations).
Alternative idea: If you have to put the D-series back in (and brakes), have you thought about IT? It is usually well attended regionally (it is not a national class).
