Default wrapping my header

i just got some wrapp for my comptech 421..its ss.
it looks like ill have to take it out to do it properly being its a 1 peice..

is this going to crack my header..and if so can i reweld it if it does?
it just gets too hot in there..i need to cool it down somehow..

also im going to wrap the aem cai,a/c lines and cooling hoses....is this safe..?

I heard wrapping it will kill the life of your headers, they might only last a year. The reason racers do it is because they will be replacing it soon anyways. But it does supposivly helps, but if you dont want to keep on buying new headers I would advise you not to wrap them.

Well it could only be a a few months, I do not know. I just have heard it will cut the life of your headers dramatically.

"i just got a 1" by 50 foot on the way..the thing is that i have a 1 peice header and it would be difficult to remove it..so can i manage just leaving it in and wrapping it? also if i cut it up into 4 peaces it would be easier right?
how much does it reduce underhood temps?? can u touch the header when its hot...since u got the wrap on it?"

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=266415

I see that you saw my post. Yes I ordered the same exact length wrap u got. I only got to wrap a good half of it. Yes it would be easier to cut it in 4 different pieces. But its messier imo. That means u will need 8 hose clamps. Trust me you will want to take the header out to do the wrap. Yeah I touched the header and no burn! The temp is unbelievably low now.

With the CAI and A/C lines you need reflective tape. But since I had some leftover, I just wrapped my A/C line and no problems.

LMFAO
yeah i wanna see u touching the headers when they are hot with the wrap lol that **** its funny......
its reduces engine bay temps by like 40 deg...... no exagerated changes...... and yes they are still hot.. u can spit on them and before the spit touches the header they will evaporate....... ill say around 300deg....

well the headers by itself let the heat go out of them to the engine bay air (cooling off) ..... when u wrap them , they reduce engine bay heat wich means the heat gets concentrated into the headers only... headers will be too hot since they are wraped... too much heat, for too long will reduce the life of the metal compund, meaning on cracks, or metal getting fragile and brittle.......

i got the 2" by 50" since my header is a 1 peice 421..i must remove it to do it correctly. i cut 2 peices of the appropriate length(13ft) so i can wrap the header in 2 sections..its easier this way and less clamps.

i also have some reflective tape in the garage that we used to tape on a drier duct elbow for the drier...hmmm its heat reflective and pretty..
dam before u know it ill be sucking air the eingine bay as a/c it will be so cool in there..

header wrap will eventually crack your headers. its basicly ment to insulate your engine bay. its also *suposed* to force heat downward twards your exhaust. because of increased header temp they'll **** up eventually

when you buy a header, most of them come with a warning advising you NOT to use header wrap as it will ruin the header.

don't do it man. it won't make that much of difference, and it's not worth your header.

stainless steel headers wont crack from being wrapped but ceramics always will.
I wouldnt wrap the header unless its a true race car.

You can get a cheap ole chikara header for about a hundred or so, so who cares about it rotting out. I would do it. I mean, why not cool down that engine bay>? If we really cared about what would happen to our engines a year into the future, I don't think we would be modifying them to begin with.

i love racing

Not only does wrapping the header trap heat to the header, it also traps moisture
that just speeds up the rust/corrosion process.
As mentioned before, unless you have the funds to buy a new header every year, it's not recommended. There are plenty of other ways to battle engine heat.
WaterWetter can be added to your coolant to help reduce motor temps, plus there are various insulations that can be used on other items (brake fluid, distributor, etc) to keep them from getting heated up by the motor.

When I go to buy a car, and I see the headers are wrapped, or can tell. I tell the guy to subtract how much those headers cost from the final price because that is something that I will be needing to replace very soon. My friends do it as well. Wrapped headers for just street use is pointless.
