You're not going to beable to pass inspection, and you're be running lean.....I'd suggest leaving the cat and hollowing it out, then put 2.25 piping on for your exhaust

negative consequences off the top of my head: smells bad, leaves more black on bumper, mega fine if caught, enviro unfriendly, check engine light may come on.

Everyone here has told you DO NOT DO IT in Cali, but you continue to want to... so, ******* go do it, and tell us what happens. Not my checkbook.

one more thing... you have a Prelude Si that's STOCK. You aren't going to get that much power from ANYTHING you do outside of N2O or turbo.

remember that without a CAT, your car will sound very different. Throw on some rice on your car, then you'll be a shoe in to get busted.

emissions? what's that?!?

it'll add a slight raspy sound to your exhaust tone.

move to a mod friendly state and you have no worries.

It will make your car louder, The ticket in VA is about $1500 and it's a Fed offense.

if your car doesn't have to pass inspection, you don't have to worry about it.

i have never ran a cat on any of my past cars, we dont have emissions here though, mine doesnt smell funny, smells like unburnt fuel to me, mine never left any black stuff on the bumper- but it did make my exhaust louder
plus i noticed a big power gain

Here is a little story to tell you why you should not remove your cat on public roads.

I live in Georgia nad before I owned my Prelude I had a GSR 1994. I modified the engine (camshafts, pistons, springs retainers, port&polished, bigger throttle body, JRSC, and so forth ). One day I got greedy and decided to remove my cat so I could race this Mustang Cobra whom had NOS and some other supposed mods. Well I fabricated a staight pipe and then went to the dyno. I had gained 7.4 hspwr and I was shocked and happy . To make a long story short, I beat the Mustang, took the money I had won from him, thenm proceeded home. What sucked was that I got caught 2 blocks from my parents house at 2:30 am. The cop asked me if I had something wrong with my car, I said not to my knowledge. He then rebuked me and said that his son put on a rice (he did not say rice) muffler and it was to loud so he made him take it off due to Cobb county noise ordinance (which I was not aware of). I had a Greddy Power Extreme, so I showed him my CARB sticker, he still wasn't satisfied. He then did the worse thing ans so did I, he looked underneath my car. But, he could not see anyhting,I then put my foot in my mouth, I told him if he wanted my flash light (I work as a bouncer ata couple of clubs so I have a "beat-light ), he said sure. That is when I got caught and had to pay Cobb county $750 plus court fee's and so forth.

To end this story, don't bother, cops know what to look for, you may get lucky, but that's it you may get lucky!

Easy way to conceal it. Get a testpipe, but weld over it the heatshield from the cat. It LOOKS like a cat, but underneath is a testpipe. Even if they check, they won't be able to tell if it's a pipe or a cat. But I didn't tell you this...

Just expect to pay double or triple the emission costs each year.

And one of the many rice benefits from this mod is that with enough fuel and revs, I can shoot some fireballs from the exhaust.

if you have black smoke you have problems with your car, none of my cars with testpipes have smoked any more than with a cat, i never had any fireballs either
i did have the loud noise though

The consequence is that you will be increasing the pollution we all have to breathe everyday. Next, it is a violation Federal law to remove or in any way modify the convertor. NO automobile dealer can accept the car in trade or resell it without a functioning convertor. I know of NO state with an exemption to this rule. The law permits you to replace the convertor with a WORKING one of like manufacture (Random Tech or Catco anyone). There are still places in the country where an emissions test is not required-but that does not mean that the system can be altered.
The advantage of removing the convertor for RACING only use is that there is a small gain in horsepower for our cars. I do know several Viper owners who have "tricked out" their exhausts (throwing codes as well) and have seen 100HP gains on the dyno-this is not typical!
Reconsider this idea-if a noisy exhaust is your goal go buy a small "cherry bomb" type muffler and run it. The consequence in many parts of the country will be a fine for noise. California is nasty, so I read, about their 95 dB rule. Be smart.

Black smoke = rich.

I have an H22a in my 94 accord, custom CAI, obx header, straight pipe, 2.25 catback, my car in vtec loves to shoot black smoke, fireballs on shifts and it leaves carbon on my back bumper. H22a's run VERY rich on the top end. Its normal.
