Years/models with defective auto trannies?
I'm searching for a used Accord or possibly a CR-V, from about 1998 to about 2004, but I've been reading about premature automatic transmission failure in some of these models. The Odyssey of the early '00s also seems to have been afflicted. Research indicates it wasn't just the trannies used behind V6's that were bad; many 4 cylinder owners have had to replace multiple transmissions.
I was surprised at reading this; I got 265K miles out of my '96 Accord (4 cyl.) without any such issues...until the car was stolen on New Years Day in Pasadena.
What's the reason for all these failures, and which models/years of Accords, CR-Vs (and for that matter, Civics and Odysseys) should a prospective buyer avoid?
Thanks for your help!
