Default Window Tint

Why do so many people get their windows tinted?

There are so many used cars I have seen listed here that I would have been interested in, if they didn't have tint on the windows. The stuff is so hard to take off.

I realize that in some areas lots of people have tinted windows.

Here in Chicago tinted windows are usually found on old domestic cars with enormous chrome wheels. So that is why I would have to take it off. Plus it attracts too much negative attention from the police.

about 5 minutes of research on google;

-can prevent over heating, can keep interior up to 78% cooler
-protects from harmful uv waves
-helps hold glass together instead of shattering in an accident
-reduces glare from sun, snow, other headlights and other reflective things
-enhances privacy, what a burglar can't see, he won't steal
-acts as sunscreen. sun rays can cause cracking and fading of upholstery
-provides a smart, uniform look, which improves appearance
-having your vin number put in your tinting film can be seen as a safety feature by your insurance company which may cause a discount. also helps in car recovery

I have them just for the fact I don't like other people being able to look at me in traffic, lol. (5%)

I bought my car with tint, but it was horrible. Took me hours to take off and I rode fishbowl for a little bit, but the sun down here in Miami will give your left arm a tan, lol.

Most of the donks, boxes, bubbles, g-bodies, etc. don't have tint on them(down here at least), some even have clear vinyl convertible tops(*shiver* eww)

Also, it helps throw off thieves a bit, so they don't know what's in, or not in, your car. Although I have already been stopped for them by police, but it's nice to be freezing in your car on a hot and humid day down here.

Yeah those are the types of cars that seem to have the tint on them around here. I didn't know there were so many different terms for them.

I am going to search for each on the internet. Then I will be able to know the difference between a donk and a g-body.

Did they give you a ticket for the tint? I am pretty sure it is illegal to have the windows super dark like on a limo in my state, except I always see people driving around like that.

I like to tint my windows because I don't like the fishbowl effect when waiting for the light to turn green. I have 20% on my integra and never get harassed by the popo. My CRX, however, doesn't have tint and, to me, it's invasive.

Yeah, I got a citation for them. It was in Monroe county though; the cops down there are real dicks. I live in Miami and they have never bugged me about it.

If you type "donk" all of them will probably show up. Everyone who sees a lifted old domestic on big rims calls it a donk. They called my Blazer on 20s a donk once.
