Default '94 hard start.

My car doesn't like to start when the engine has cooled off. It will crank, and then make interesting noises, as if the starter is disengaging. Sometimes after it has been sitting in the cold it will take several seconds to begin cranking the motor. After it starts it will sputter and run extremely rough, choppy. I have to give it gas, and wind it up to around five thousand, then it smoothes out and I have no issues with it. I suspect the battery might be bad. Because today I want to get in it and the starter wouldn't crank at all. Jumped, started instantly. Had the batt tested and came back fine. I'm relatively handy when it comes to mechanical systems, but when it comes to electrical I am totally lost.

I suspect that my battery is not supplying enough amps to properly turn over the engine.

Many auto places will test your battery, alternator, and starter for free. Pep Boys, Autozone, Kragens, etc. You can drive in and get your battery load tested and alternator tested. Then yoiu would have to remove your starter and bring it in and they test it on the bench. You can start there as it wouldn't cost you anything.
