Default Cam choices... Which one?

Currently I running Type R camshafts in my setup. I was wondering if I should go with Skunk2 stage 2 or 3? Or Skunk2 Pro 1's. Also does the stage 3 have coil bind/clearence issues? The engine is currently in the car I just want to run 12's before I pull it for a rebuild or engine upgrade.

Specs are:

B16A with B17A crank/rods and CTR pistons (bought the short block that way)
Type R head (Toda valve springs/Skunk2 retainers)
Skunk2 IM with 65mm t/b
Stock Type R exhaust manifold

Just bought a Skunk2 60mm cat-back (Too loud for me. Waste of nearly $500.). Just seeing if it will help me with a tenth of two.

Since some cams work better on 1.8L than 1.6/1.7L. Just wondering which camshaft would more suit the displacement of my engine.

IMO your going to have a tough time getting into the 12's on your current shortblock.
Although your current times are impressive, I am not sure a cam swap will get you 4 tenths. All of the Skunk cams you have listed have been used in 1.6 with great success, with the stage 3 being a great drag cam.

Any cam upgrade is going to need extensive clearancing with the CTR pistons as they are known to have problems with larger cams.

You are going to need springs to go much bigger than the ITRs. And, anything with really high lift may cause clearance issues with the domes on those slugs, so be ready to clay it.

You could probably get away with BC3+ cams, if you don't move them around too much.

I had pro 1's but got rid of them because I was worried of clearence issues. I can get them back. though. The car is not really set up for drag. The car was being setup for auto x. Just for fun not for competition. So I have swaybars front (GSR) and back (ITR). I forgot to mention it has a 8lb flywheel which I assume that is hurting me of the line. The fastest the car ran is 13.29 e.t. with slicks and 2 1/4 piping to a 2in ES Oval muffler. The spare tire was out. I also took out the front passenger seat since I had about 7 gallons of gas in the tank. I figured that about right for the weight difference. If this was a drag car then I would of not put the sway bars, taken out the a/c system, not put on 5 lug suspension, misc items and would of made the car about 125-150lbs lighter.

With the 2in ES Oval muffler and the 2 1/2" exhaust with header it was 2 tenth difference in the 1/4 mile (14.0 vs 13.8). With lighter rims. I have stock 15" Type R wheels (35-36lbs with tire). Put back the Hytech header and cams swap. Swap the GSR tranny for an ITR one. I should be 13-13.1's or hopefully high 12's

I have Toda valvesprings. they were chosen because I could run stock cams without scarring them up and then run aftermarket ones later.

Had BC3+ in my engine for 2 days didn't get to track it. Someone made a stupid offer to me I couldn't refuse. So the BC3+ are gone lol. Move them around?

I really wouldn't trust any cam with the combination you have without having the head off to check clearances.
What are you tuning your car with?

I had made an appointment to have my car tune, they had priority on another car. Another time they took to long on another car waited 3 hours just for them to say sorry could we do it another day? What a joke. Not going to mention the name of the shop. So just a base map. I drove this engine around for 11 months with no specks or pitting on the spark plugs. Pinging on hot days. So if the engine goes next. LOL.
I going to try Parrish next (for tuning). Anything good or bad about them?

hi guys,

I have a s2s2 cams and supertech valvespring and retainers on my CTR head. during valve clearance check/adjustment I noticed that there abrasions on the s2s2 lobes and my rocker arm also showed some abrasions (metal-metal contact).

has any of you experienced this?

thanks!

Well thanks everyone for their advice/comments. I guess I will have to find another car since I was hit and run on the 13th.
