Default What makes the EK so chubby?

Ok, the lightest EK hatchback Im seeing is the CX comming in at 2222 (Via carpoint.com)

I know the Car is a tad bigger with a Longer wheelbase then the EG, but 200 pounds bigger? so maybe more tar, and just a heavier dash ETC ETC? 2222 is still pretty light but I was just wondering where the extra 200 pounds of flab is, any help would be great thanks all.

it isnt just in one place, its a little bit here and a little bit there, just put your car and yourself on a little diet and dont worry about it. But come to think about it, dont worry about it anyway because the ek is a cleaner chassis anyway

well its nothing really ist just that these are newer bodies and we needed new requirements like the OBD2 things. But your right the 96 CX only which i have is the lightest among the bunch and sorry to say that the 97-00 are weighing in about 2,350 or so. I feel lucky about that already and i am stripping everything out anyways so i am not really worried about EG's being faster.

They added some here and there to stiffen up the chassis, also. But, it won't ever be as light as an EG.

The heck?

Whatchoo talkin' about Willis?

Heavier, more side creases, more front grill area.
How's that make a "cleaner" chassis?

cleaner in appearance, not aerodynamic aspects

I won one and he's right, it is more bubbly and puffy, like us americans.

An eg has simpler lines, while the further past you go they get boxier and u could say cleaner because they have straighter lines.
I used to own a 1995 Ex coupe, and I hated the newer EK's because those headlight were so ugly, no i drool over them, ohh god no here it comes oh god....

One thing that I don't understand is why the 99-00 ones are heavier than the 96-98. Does anybody know?

maybe the ek gets a chubby from seeing some fine looking bright headlights and some big *** rears. not to mention the clean looking hatchies wearing no interior but black rims lol, sorry i had to that.

Uhhh. I disagree, but that's all a matter of aesthetic appreciation. I think the 92-95 hatches are more pleasant to look at than 96-98's, although the 99-2000's (with the slight changes in the bumper and headlights and grill) run a close second.

I believe the extra weight was all in chassis stiffening, so the EK was the stiffest chassis of the entire civic/integra line.. before the 2002 models came out.
