Default Thinking about purchasing an NSX

I'm starting to look at 95 and older NSXs, I'm wondering what kind of common problems I should be looking for, how much is too much money, any advice you guys can give me?

I'm really wanting around a 94-95 hard top manual but given exceptional condition, I will go older.

I know Jon D has one and I was around while he was scouting for them.

Other than the snap ring range dealio with earlier models I don't think there was much wrong with them. Regular maintenance based on age was a biggie since most don't get driven on a daily basis.

I would recommend you go to NSXPrime to get more info and production of NSX coupes for interested model years. Coupes are hard to find after 94.

Just registered for the nsxprime forums, I love their random questions.

'What is the value of the mathematical constant e rounded to two decimal places?'

It didn't accept my email so I had to do another.

'Following the pattern shown in the sequence , what is the missing number? 1 8 27 ? 125 216'

I guess it's a good way to keep some people out.

Prices are all over the place. It seems, lately, that you can get a good '02+ for what an early model would cost. All I can recommend is that you get the best example you can find. Determine if you want an NA1 or NA2, flip headlights or exposed, etc. And then find the best example you can find.

Don't be lured by salvage titles or cars too good to be true w/ low prices. This isn't a car you want to skimp on - especially if you want to enjoy it.

Couple of oil leaks and bad power window regulators are the only things I ever fix on NSXs, other than that, they're pretty solid cars.

I wish someone would be come up with a fix to amp up the NSX window motors power. Even when working well they're slow comparision with other cars.

I've not heard of any "issues" at all. My buddy has a 97 and did the comtech supercharger and is currently going Turbo and it handles plenty of boost. And it flies, plus it's a beautiful car, nothing else like it.

So did the OP ever get an NSX?

I'm interested to hear the outcome or why one wasn't purchased.

As between 94 or 95, the 95s and later have throttle-by-wire and most are probably targas. TBW can be somewhat limiting as far as installing an AEM ECU (if you're ever considering going turbo later on, for example). The targa top makes it quite a bit heavier, with no increase in horsepower for that year. If you want a targa, go with a 97+ with the 3.2 motor and 20 extra horses.

A range of the early production had snap ring issues. Besides that, there really isn't anything to look out for.

Yeah my passenger side window is slow, freakin lame. We lubed the window regulator seals and made a big difference. Rejuvenates the rubber and allows the window to slide up much easier.

Overall though I think a new motor may be the easiest fix but Id assume they are expensive. Havent even looked at prices yet

I picked up mine about 2 weeks ago and love it as a daily driver. Got a 91 mint condition but with a little higher miles for ridiculously cheap.

A new motor will not fix anything since I replaced my regulators a few years ago. Theres a guy right now designing pulleys for them so it shows promise and yes the regulators are expensive.

By the way 200,000 plus miles is not a little higher miles.....

Ive seen the pulleys, as of now system looks janky as hell using a pulley from an s2k. I understand the system and its flaws but using my passenger switch the window goes up much faster showing that there must be resistance in the circuitry.

Oh and the car is mint. Interior is probably 8/10 and exterior is 9.5/10 with an engine that has aboue 90K on it. For the price I got it at the car was a steal and the high miles doesnt fade me one bit.

Im no newb to working on cars so the labor will be done by myself to fix anything and its still just a Honda, people hype it up much more than it is...

I'd like to see some pics of this bargain basement NSX! What did you pay for it? How many miles on the body?

Body has 202K, engine has 90K, and got it for 17K

'

That included the Iforged wheels, sparco steering wheel + seats, HKS intake, HKS Hipermax coilovers, and NSX-R wing and aftermarket mesh engine cover

Sorry for the bad pics I just have my wifes point and shoot camera.
