Default RPMs go up in a right turn?

Hey guys..I searched and I could not find anything on this certain topic.

If this has already been covered, please close this thread.

Anywho, I am looking at a 94 Integra LS with 179,000 miles. It's a clean car. No oil leaks, etc.

Has Tein Basic coilovers and GSR twisties for mods.

When I drove the car, it was fine until the owner told me to take it into a right turn. He told me to "give it some gas".

As I did that, the RPMs shot up and then in a second, they went back down to the point they are suppose to be at.

The speed this was done at was about 20 mph.

What do you think is the problem? He told me he replaced the PCV valve last year.

Should I check the IACV? Clean it up a bit?

Is this an auto car? Did it feel like the trans was slipping at all?

Yes it is an Automatic car.

It shifts normally. Sometimes when I'm driving in a straight line whilst giving some throttle (30%) it randomly revs up then catches and goes back down. But that's rare. It barely happens. Only in a turn. It's weird.

Not sure if this could be the case or not but it might be worth taking a look at. I did something similar to that before. I took the plastic cover that goes on the cluster off for cleaning purposes. So for about 2-3 days I drove my car without the plastic cover on the cluster. Everything worked fine until I rolled down the windows. During certain speed, with the windows rolled down, the rpm would jump since air from the window was coming into contact with the rpm needle. The rpm needle indeed is very light. Consider checking for cracks or any type of entrance big enough where air can enter. If that doesn't help, trying swapping cluster. Maybe it's just a defect.

I see what you're saying. I don't think that's the problem though. The engine itself actually surges. it's odd..

Oh and what about the temp gauge? When it's all warmed up, the needle is just before the middle part where it's suppose to be at. And at times when I put it in park, the needle goes just past the middle point and sits there..soo odd.

I don't think it's over heating. I checked for signs of bad head gasket but it's fine. All though, I do need a new timing belt. The car vibrates at times..

No tips here, but i have an auto with around 135K doing the same thing. I drained and filled tranny fluid but no change was felt.
It doesnt do it as much when warmed up though.
I think tranny is getting bad

For the RPM to go up without additional throttle, the load on the engine is changing.

Possible causes:
slipping transmission
gear change
torque converter issues
axle coming out of the transmission

I think it has to do with the tq converter and/or the axle popping out.

The transmission shifts perfectly with no slipping.

So if it happens in a right turn, maybe the axle is having issues?
