2 quick questions for you guys.

my friend bought a 1999 honda civic EX coupe, right now it has drums and some sort of non vtec engine, he bought it yesterday.

should a 1999 honda civic EX coupe have rear drums? or should it have disc brakes?
does it have a vtec engine or not?

nothing special, american model.
it has a sun roof, factory cd stereo, power electric everything.... just if it helps.

my understanding was that the EX model has a 1.6 V-tec, and rear disc brakes?? i have a 95 civic EX

did my friend get ripped off, or that is just how those civics came out in those years.

ive been doin some research, and it looks like 99 EX's come with drums. and the engine does not say v-tec on the valve cover but it does have the vtec solonoid, next to the head at the corner. i need to see his ride tomorrow, well sunday. day time.

The 99s come with drums all of 96-00 come with drums. and it should be vtec motor it does not have to say vtec on the valve cover. if you have the vtec solenoid than it has to be vtec

 

look for d16y8 on the front of the block, and if the intake manifold doesnt have that verticle throttle body youre all good
