Default DIY Transmission Rebuilding

I have a 01 accord V4 with 170K which has a jerking problem, been doing it for about a year now but getting pretty bad now, htech forums say it is possible that the clutch packs are toast. I am capable of pulling the tranny out but i was wondering if it is possible to rebuild it at home, are the parts available to order in? Honda and tranny shops are charging over $3000 to rebuild it.
Has anyone done it?

I for one would consider this a 'Major challenge'.

The typical Honda shop manual has a 200+ page section covering the automatic transmission: special tools, test procedures, ...

Has the ATF fluid been replaced yet?

Dude, order a reman unit from Honda. Pull yours swap it for theirs(core required) and have no worries. Yeah its 2g. but 2g is less than 3 and its rebuilt by Honda and comes with a 3/36 warranty, just like your car did when it was new. You can't buy your accord for 2g so I think its a good deal.
