70 PSI in #1 Cylinder, Valves Likely?
93 Accord LX Wagon auto, 151K. Compression check of #1 cylinder yields only 70 psi (RATS!), others all run about 190. No oil fouling of plug, doesn't seem to be excessive blowby into the crank case. Had just replaced spark plug o-rings, top and bottom, and adjusted valves (have to recheck that!). If valve adjustment is ok, I likely have one or more bent valves, correct? Any way to verify before taking the head all the way off? What can be seen by taking the exhaust manifold off and looking in the ports? I guess I'm screwed either way.
Bent or burned more than likely. to find out, loosen the valve lash so the valves are closed and apply air to that cylinder. If it blows out the intake or (more than likely) the exhaust, you have a valve issue.
Pulled the valve cover. Readjusted #1 valves, not sure what I screwed up the first time, unfortunately, that only got it up to 120 psi. Verfied clearance at all four rockers, pressurized the cylinder and could hear air leaking and feel it coming out of the #3 spark plug hole (#3 exhaust valves are open when #1 at TDC). Looks like one or more bad exhaust valves. If I'm unsure about the age of the timing and balance shaft belts, I might as well do it all at one, right?
Any recommendations for someone in the Cincinnati area to do the head work?
