New SI --- how bad is theft?
I am thinking about buying my g/f a new SI sedan but am wondering if theft is bad with them like it is with the older EG/EK civics?
She works a night job and from time to time it would be nice to be able to park it over night on the street etc. I own a turbo EG for a fun car and it CANNOT be parked out side at all which really sucks.
I just want to know if the new SI's are getting stolen left and right or if they are fairly secure. I dont want to get that phone call to come pick her up because the new car is gone.

i have never heard of an '06+ Si being stolen by methods other than having the keys left in the ignition.
the only thing i'd be concerned about is jealous kids who key it and such.
what will the future hold? who knows.. thieves always find ways to get past security measure to get what they want. probably safe to say that the current generation Si will be molested like the old, but not for 8-10 years i'd imagine.

ECU is locked, so unless they have the key, or a handy-dandy $6000 HALTEC ecu replacement (and tune in under 60sec), the worst you can have happen is getting broken into by a bashed window. I havent heard of an 06+ SI get stolen yet either.
Yeah, it's kind of hard to sell parts off a new civic to a car that still has fresh parts.. Plus, selling the motor won't be as easy unless it's stolen for personal use... Like everyone is saying, the car is too fresh now but in some years it'll be needed for parts and technology would have advanced for thieves..

well I think we are going to go ahead and snag one we have been looking. Im sure with a good pager alarm, lojack and insurance it will be fine.
Thats the crappy thing about hondas they are such a great car but you always have to be afraid of theft. Im sure its like that with most popular cars though now like 240's, RX7's etc.

You know, you can park a show quality car with a hot K20 swap with all the goodies that was featured in a top publication next to a $200k+ exotic like a Ferrari or Lamborghini in a prime spot for car theft and the Honda will disappear 1st.
I have always been under the impression that the Drive By Wire deal was one thing stopping thieves from jacking our K20Z3 compared to older model K20's...
thats because you can strip down a honda and make money fast off the parts. you cant do the same with an exotic car.
Plus, people steal Honda's for local parts sales.. No one is parting out a Lambo or Ferrari and selling parts on the boards lol.. If it's stolen, most likely it's going on straight on a boat..
Because next year she will be my wife, im a man with a good job not a little boy worried about being a "playa"
Well I think we will be ok I just picked up a 99 CR-V for a daily beater/dog hauler today so if she has to park it some where not to nice she will just take the CRV instead to down town, grocery store etc. That way my EG and her SI can be left at home.
I imagine that theft will get worse over the years but for now I guess its new enough that if some thing does happen to it insurance will just pick up the tab unlike my 93 si with $15K into it
Im sure insurance would write me a bitchen check for $2K lol

Trying to understand why this question was asked, when this forum doesn't compile research valid to this thread.
Try Google. Here are two example search results

FYI, I just looked and CARFAX rates our car as "Substantially better than average" for theft, meaning...VTEC JUST KICKED IN, BRO!...few are stolen.

People say you can't steal the new Si, but the same was said when the Integra was installed with a transponder key (and insurance companies still think they can't be stolen lulz).
