Icon6 B20 Bottom End Build

I bought this 2.0 liter/ supposedly type r head combo making 12.5:1 compression. I owned it for a week and it spit out a rod while i was going 35 in 5th gear. It was found that the bottom end was built with the stock rods. I have a ABSOLUTE maximum of 5000 to spend. I would like to build another bottom end that would make about 11.5 - 11.8 :1 compression to daily drive but still put down some nice numbers. Im reusing the same head which has been ported and polish, has a port matched edlebrock victor x intake mani, port match hy tech replica header and i was told there are skunk2 cams (pro 2's im assuming) hanging out in there. I am not sure what type of piston/rod combo to go with if i use the stock crank. Any suggestions? Keep in mind i want to be able to run pump gas and have something reliable that i can still take to the track on weekends.

and as far as the rods, What length is optimal for these set-ups?

in for more info as well. is there anything wrong with a stock b20 crank? im under the impression that everything has some what of a variance in sizes, so swapping cranks will require buying different length rods, so you really have to get specific when you are aiming for a certain compression ratio. i am on a tight budget and would like to build a bullet proof two liter bottom end without spending more than 4 grand. can anyone tell me the best way to source a block and a crank?

b20 and ls cranks are pretty much identical. an itr or gsr crank has an 87mm stroke. but the LS and B20 cranks have an 89 mm stroke. so you will get a little bit more torque with an LS or B20 crank. you will need LS/B20 rods. i have an LS crank never used since it was balanced and polished by Laskey racing for sale. also have eagle LS length rods for sale. PM me if you or anyone is interested. have other stuff for sale that may help with your build like a brand new type R oil pump.

i decided on going with a brian crower 2.2l stroker bottom end, with the light weight crank option and the long rods. should spin to 9000 rpm safely.

I went with the ITR crank because I found a good deal on it. I had also driven a few b20vtecs with ITR cranks and they revved smooth as hell. I'm happy with it

but isnt piston to valve clearence an issue with these builds or something?

so it would be 'safer' to go with the ITR/ GSR crank/rods (shorter) no?

no just get diffrent pistons the problem is the valve reliefs are to small on stock b20 pistons just get after market pistons plus you get more compression resulting in more power

GSR/ITR rods are actually longer. Shorter stroke but longer rods. There are clearance issues with b20 pistons because of the valve reliefs. non vtec heads have 31mm valves while vtec heads use 33mm valves. The only exception is the p8r head which uses 33mm valves.

and that being said i never understood that if it was a clearence issue then why did honda use 33mm valves in the p8r head i mean i know it wasnt reving that high but the yseem to have no issues with it maybe its because the cams arent as agressive too and also maybe thats why so many people get away with using the stock pistons with stock cams
