Icon6 D7_62's DD Build

Hi there HT, I've been reading through these forums a while and finally decided to make an account and post. Figured I'd start out with a thread of what I'm currently working on. I'm no mechanic, but my dad is and so with his help I'm trying to further my knowledge on vehicles and whatnot. Now with that said, this is a daily driver and no racecar by any means. So if I put something in the car chances are it's for cosmetic appeal or dependability, or simply because I got it for cheap. Well here we go. Keep the flames to a minimum.
89 CRX DX D15B2 Automatic

When I first got the car. (Haha, I sure picked a good one to learn on huh!)

Muffler fell off on the way home.

Started on the paint. It was covered in what seemed to be sign paint or something. So happy it wasn't very durable. Laquer thinner took it right off.

Very good question

Silicone puzzle peice corner lights ftw?

Dad sawing off the condensed foam puzzle pieces. Had GOBS of silicone holding them on.

More paint work.

Lots of rust under the group of puzzle pieces on the front.

The majority of it taken off.

Well unfortunately about a week after I got the car, I took about an hour long trip and on the way there a rod came apart. Our guess is that it spun a rod bearing. Couldn't find any other culprits. Blew a hole in the block, oil flew out hit the headers and burst into flames. I lifted the hood, proceded to flip, put the fire out. Luckily no serious damage, just some wet pants.
Here's the damage.

So ordered a newer D15 out of a 95 with 50k miles, switched it from OBD1 to OBD0

Out with the old, in with the new(er)

Bit's n Pieces

Replaced exhaust from front to back. Noname catback.

Chipped some paint off the hood. Replacement, came off of a 90-91. Started some rust repair just for the time being till I actually get it painted.

Traded those disgusting 17" Konigs for some SI's

Only one window in the entire car had tint. It was poorly done.

Small touches here and there. Cargo net, Painted wipers, painted hatch trim(it was teal.) New fenders(ricey I know, the original ones look like a kid attacked it with a mallet.), New window. (was plexiglass siliconed in) All new brakes.

Some cosmetics.

As with most CRX's my climate control was bits and pieces, and didn't work well. So a custom one was made. Simple, easy to use, nothing fancy.

And that's it for now. My current project is the window trim, pretty much copycatting Beansnrice, scraping and repainting. Pics up soon. Sorry for the MASSIVE post 56k users, this is pretty much all the material from the past 3-4weeks.

Haha, No I don't think so. It was a family art project. Used to take it to art car shows and whatnot. What would drive somebody to do this is beyond me. There wasn't a whole lot wrong with the body before they painted it. All the dents and other body damage was done after it was painted all puzzled.

WTF...... speachless...(not in a good way)

Your picture of using the tractor as engine lift is hella funny, not as funny as a home made 2x4 rig that was used but funny...

Haha, thanks for all the comments and support.
Been raining here lately, and I've been too busy to get anything done.
Yeah, the tractor as a lift, hey, when that's all you got, and you don't have a garage. Use what you can get your hands on haha.

EDIT:: I'm also looking into an oil cooler. Maybe something like this that I clearly found on eBay. Not real sure if this one would fit or if it's even a deal. It's a universal one, I messaged the seller and got no reply. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with one, where I can get one if it's a better buy, and if this one I'm looking at is compatable with my engine. Gimme some feedback. Also, the main reason I'm looking into this is once more for dependability, and my 2into1 pipe for my exhaust is pretty much molesting my oil pan, so I can imagine the oil getting pretty hot.

Florida sun finally came out today so I got to make a small amount of progress. I spent hours today using an old t shirt and a squirt bottle of laquer thinner contiueing to remove specks of colorful paint. I also painted the cowl under the windshield which was orange. Also, for the heck of it. a 360 view of the car as of today.

I love the climate control! Where do I get one? Mines cracked as well, only need heat in the winter.

That's custom! Just some quarter inch plexiglass spray painted black with some holes cut in it, and 3 ON-OFF-ON switches in.
First switch : top-high mid-off bottom-low
2nd switch: top-defrost bottom-dash & floor
3rd switch: top-Fresh air bottom-recirculate
could have used momentary switches on the 2nd and 3rd.

I live about an hour west of Orlando. That's why this restoration has been going so slow, the fact that if I try to use laquer thinner in 20 degree weather, my hands are going to be frostbitten. Also, paint does not cure right in these temperatures so I can't paint the trim.
My biggest problem is that I do not own a garage.

Painted drivers door trim today. Still have a lot to do to the other door. I think it turned out decent.

Also, whoever owned the car before me apparently didn't own a screwdriver so he just broke things off if they didn't work. I was wondering. What the heck goes here? I looked online and can't find anything.

they are the lights which blink when either the driver or passenger doesn't have there seatbelt on. although i don't believe the piezo speaker is up there, by unplugging this unit you will make the beeping stop. this is the best pic i could find of what is supposed to go there. the rearview arm isn't coming out of it though because i've installed an auto-dimming mirror with compass that mounts to the windshield.
