10,000$ later...
This is will be my first car, I am prioritizing myself on what I would like to accomplish with this car. This will be my DD, so I would like something that gets good MPG but will also have a kick to it. By the way, I am 17. What is my to-do list for my car?
-Sound System
-Mod the engine
-Suspension
-Brakes+Tires
-Turbo (optional)
-Seats
-etc...
I have not decided which car I should get. My friends say that I should get a 4Dr because not only is the weight difference between Coupe (my other choice) and Sedan very little, but instead of always having to get out to let people in the backseat in and out, they could just open the door to get in the back. Smart eh? lol. Depending on the year of the car and model, I will be doing modifications to the engine. After 2000 model the price seems to jump alot, so I would like to stay at around 3000$ on the car.
If anybody has any good comments on which car, I would like feedback. Not just someone saying "Get the Coupe" or "Get the Sedan". Any sudgestions on which model and year?
Sound System? 4 speakers and 1 sub since I will be listening to house. 1 way amp and a nice deck.
Exterior modifications? I would like to put a lip on the front and back, side skirts. All color matched of course. Change the lights maybe put HID's? LED's? Not too extreme or ricey just so that it looks good. Drop it in the summer and bring it back up in the winter. Our winter's are terrible
. Rims of course.
My girlfriend's cousin gets very good deals on tires and suspension, he will be helping me in the process. I cannot really think of anything else right now. I want it to be nice, not rice, and a decent engine to back it up.

for 3k find an eg coupe that is in decent condition but needs some tuning up and would be a good base for s project. i like the coupes, everyone has hatches nowadays.

find a car thats fairly clean and what you can afford. runs good, no major problems.
sound system shouldnt be #1.
1. brakes and tires. no leaks, fresh fluid, good pads and rotors. master cylinder not leaking. tires have good tread depth, no more then 3-4 years old. alignment is straight. inflated to manufacturer spec.
2. become a better driver. follow rules. dont race. dont drive recklessly. you can have a little fun but keep it under control. notice that most older people with sporty cars dont drive crazy all the time. there a time and place for it.
3. general maintenance. lights, seatbelts, belts, hoses, plugs, wires, etc. get a shop manual like a Helm and some tools.
4. after the cars in good safe condition, then you can start playing with it. most young people want loud *** stereos. skip that and you save a lot and not look like a douche. get a decent head unit (alpine, pioneer) pick some two way speakers or if you think you are skilled enough some component speakers. just get front speakers. once you have an amplified setup in front youll barely hear the back anyway. once you know the rms power rating on the speakers you can pick an amp that supplies enough power. either research and hook it up yourself or have someone do it. its not that hard but easy to mess up. there are tons of write ups of how to install stereos, amps and speakers. good luck.

^ He's right. Make sure the car is safe first. After that you can move on to what you like. Get yousrself a nice headunit, some door and deck 2 way speakers, and like a single 12" sub. Like alphalanos said, don't do something huge. Get your self some wheels and tires, then move on to the suspension. Next would be some performance mods like, intake, header, and exhaust. Research your exhaust before you buy and pick something of quality, something thats not going to sound bad or be ugly as hell. Then start on some cosmetics like front and rear lips and side skirts but something tasteful not something gaudy. Maybe a set of GOOD HIDs, look into retrofitted kits not just bulbs.
Make sure all the maintenance is up to date first. Change your oil, coolant, hoses, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing belt, water pump, etc. Anything that's due for service. Well, whatever is urgent now and wait until spring so you can do it when it's nice. For now make sure you have a good battery, the coolant is the right concentration, you have good oil...
ht isnt so friendly now a days
find a clean and mechanically stable car
skip the radio as you can not buy a new set of ears
get slotted rotors with a nice pad that bites well
go onto wheels and tires as tires are necessary for any car to perform well
look into suspension, do it once and do it right
and dont bother the i/h/e if its a single cam, save up for a swap or as you have suggested go for boost
just my .02

ppl cant be friendly to stupid title and content. i was looking forward to what he spent on 10g. absolutely nothing...major disappointment. OP if you are 17 and first car i suggest you buy a car that will last you for awhile down the road so you can get a decent job and save up a good amount then start doing what you plan on doing. oh yeah all that stuff that u mention will not add up to 10g. oh yeah remember you will be the driver so you never have to move so they can get out unless u want to...
First of all dont let your friends decide what car you have to get. Take there advice but at the end of the day it's gonna be your car get what you want. If it were me i would not get a any year hatch, 92-00 coupe, or 96-00 four door. Thats my opinion but don't let someone decide for you listen to what they havew toi say but make your own decision.
