Default Do People Steal the Really Low-End Civics?

I just picked up an 05 DX VP which is almost the bottom of the barrel and I'm wondering if I need comprehensive insurance due to theft risk. After having an S2000 stolen and stripped, I'm a little paranoid since I would have been really F'ed without comp. insurance. Obviously I would be less F'ed with this one, but it still wouldn't make my day. It has less than 37K, so there's a little bit of value there.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

They are easily broken into, but I haven't heard much about thieves actually going after the car itself.

If is has an immobilizer key, which it should, they wont be able to drive it away.

They're not impossible to steal. The immobilizer is a deterrent, but I think it's more the lack of interchangeability of parts that makes it so undesirable to your standard Honda thief.

They seem to prefer the earlier generations due to ease of theft, and the parts are likely easier to get rid of. It is a larger market, after all.

I didn't know that. If I got an 03-04 should I be worried? I live in a pretty bad college neighborhood. Both my roommates had their laptops stolen right out of our house.

//sorry for thread jacking :S

honda's are too easy.. you can use a quarter and a screw driver to start most of the older ones..a friend showed me how easy it is..it took two minutes inside the car and bam..started. ..kinda scares me a bit on how easy it is..

get some insurance and a nice car security system thats loud. put in a switch for the fuel pump and put it somewhere not obvious haha.. they will never figure that sht out.

The immobilizer in the S2000 was all but worthless.

One person's low-end Civics is another person's replacement parts.
Have you try going with a higher deductible to lower your premium? The question is what can you afford to lose if someone steals your car? If you can't afford to lose the whole car, then insurance is recommended.

the reason older cars are stolen is...
if you have a new car and need parts, whare do you go? dealer or reputable shop.
if you have a older car (95 civic) whare do you go? backyard mechanic, pay him 50 bucks to fix it and he gets his parts from a chop shop.
thats my resoning

u cant compare a civic with a s2000, of course if u leave a s2000 unsecure its gonna get even i would steal it lol, but u shouldnt worry its a dx, dont nobody want a civic where they have to roll the windows up and down

you would be surprised at that. say somebody needs an interior ( example ) they pay someone an amount to get a clean interior below cost ( get my drift get a clean interior with car attached)
some people ( mostly drug heads or criminals) will do anything for a few hundred dollars especially if its a fast turnover rate.

thieves arent picky, to them its free weather its a dx or a si.... if its easy to take and they want cash they will get it.. not many people steal a car to have a car, they steal the car for the parts that in turn they sell for money

ok, think about this. if your a car guy and your cars nice your gonna have a alarm or something on it, but your just an average joe with a stock dx and no alarm.. easy pickings. they are picky, but also not stupid. and yes i know there will be people that had alarms and fuel cut off and "my car still got stolen" well, thats a professional thief that uses a tow truck most likely. the most stolen car last year (09) was a 95 civic, according to the fbi.

They wouldn't no if i had a alarm or no becuase i dont have the lil blue flashy light in my car so it doesn't looks like i have a alarm.

And if someone dont have an alarm then there just asking to get there car stollen..

they can sell the parts quickly for cash because there are so many hondas around. think about it.

and mine has auto lock doors so when i walk away the door locks after 5-10 seconds
