Default HOW should I clean my used gsr pistons

Hey I got a 95 gsr and I am doing a rebuild and I am using stock pistons. What should I clean the pistons with. Should I hot water them with soap? Sould I use steel wool with brake cleaner? Something that will not ruin them

THANKS

most of them have carbon built up on top.
get some carburetor cleaner & leave them there for a few hours
