Corrugated Plastic Door Panels
So I've been chewing on an idea for a few weeks now, and thought I'd get a little feed back on it.
I'm stripping the interior of my AW11. Carpet, trim, sound deadening. It's all coming out. I daily a Civic, it has an interior. I don't think I need two cars with interiors.
I had been thinking of ways to strip the door panels. I've decided to replace them with corrugated plastic sheet. This is the kind of sheet you see on "Elect Bob Barker for President" lawn signs. It comes in various colors and thicknesses:

I will cut the flat sheet out in the shape of the door and secure it with Christmas Tree clips. I then intend on using nylon strap for the door handle and latch.
I can think of two problems:
1 - I've only been able to find ways of ordering that corrugated plastic sheet in quantities of 10 or more
2 - I need to find somewhere that can grommet some nylon strap for me.
Any suggestions? Any more problems that you forsee?

i suggest you find some better fastener for the panel. i would look at picking up some factory style clips similar to what's on the bumper cover (there are actually many kinds but most of them should work) and try to utilize as many existing holes as possible.
i've seen brass grommet kits at art/hobby stores and some small hardware stores near the tarps and ropes. you should be able to do that yourself.
take some pics to share your results!

If you are anywhere near a city you should be able to buy the sheets locally. Any sign supply business or company that specializes in plastics should be able to help you. I usually pay around $11 for a 4'x8' sheet. Are you going to be covering these in fabric?
I'm not intending on covering them in anything, but if they look terrible I might. I've always been of the mind that "Looks don't make it go."
Since the material is corrugated, if you arent cutting straight edges it can be very hard to make them clean. It can be done, but its hard. I was going to use some corex door panels in my toyota and just spray glue some material on it. Wouldn't weigh much more and would look a hell of a lot better than plastic.
