grinding in valves
Hey I searched all over and could not find nothing satisfying. Do you guy maybe know a write up or a video on how to seat the valves so they seat properly? I bent my exhaust valves and I got a set of used valves and I want to grind them in;at least I think thats how they call it.
Did you get a valve job. It would be a good idea to at least knurl and ream your guides or buy new ones. But back to your question. Getting valves ground consists of putting them in a lathe like machine and using a stone fixture to true the diameter and angle of the valve face. Lapping valves to the seats means placing special rubbing compound on the valve face. Having a small suction cup to hold the valve helps a lot. You place the valve in the guide and spin the valve against the seat. Then take the valve out and inspect the angle. The compound should be evenly worn and centered on the angle. If only part of the valve is covered and the rest is still shiny you need to get a valve job to make them concentric with one another. I hope this helps.
bring it to a shop. if you got the head out, you mine as well do a complete valve job. doing the poor man's valve job with the suction thingy won't last very long. Get the valves cut, the valve seat grounded to the proper angles. As for the guides, goodluck. Honda guides are the bitchiest, i repeat bitchiest guides to get them removed and installed. the shop costs an arm an a leg if you get guides replaced. the guides cost about 5 bucks a piece. multiply by 8 exhaust and 8 intake, and labor. ouch. usually the exhaust guides gets worn but check all of them.
