"You Only Get What You Pay For" True or False???
I just looked up the price of the OEM exhaust manifold on my car - $600.75 The most expensive header I could find for my car was A JG Edelbrock SS at $669.00 And, a POS ceramic DC Sports is $259.00.
Does that mean the JG Edelbrock is a little better than my OEM exhaust and the DC Sports is a piece of crap? Or am I reading this all wrong?

Normally "you get what you pay for" is a good thing to stand by because if you spend $20 on someone's used intake or something it's probably got a couple holes or something
The only thing bad I've heard from people who buy DC sports headers are that the ceramic ones do crack over time, but DC sports have been making headers for honda's for god knows how long and edelbrock is kind of more a domestic upgrade (e.g. carbeurators...) At the cost of those ceramic dc's you should be able to buy like 5 with the money you'd spend on the edelbrock and you may not get as much out of the edelbrock as you would from the dc (while it lasts...)
I'd say find a stainless steel dc header, it should be a little more than the ceramic one but it'll last longer and it PROBABLY (dunno for sure) dyno's better than the edelbrock... AND it's shiny

oh well... when I think of edelbrock I think of my friends old dodge dart (which is crappy... not edelbrocks fault but hes got parts on it
) I have no idea which would give better preformance but I still think the stainless steel dc's are a good idea, they should be a little over $300 i think... unless you can find them cheaper. Maybe somenoe would like to drop in opinions about their stainless steel dc or if they bought one the edelbrock?

well, you want a preformance header right? you dont have like an itr header already do you? Idn what you have, I'm assuming its the stock one that came with your car and not like an itr or something... It's always a good idea to keep your stock parts that way if something breaks you can quickly and maybe easily replace it with something you know works... The dc is less restrictive than your stock one hence the preformance title and power gain over stock... Your choice your engine
EDIT> and btw, if you have any 6gen NON ex/si (so if you have a 96-00 lx/dx/cx) then you will have to get some custom work done to your exhaust section to make the header fit down below (it requires moving the cat further back is what I've been told) Someone can explain this better than me, I heard it from someone on this board

Don't expect a lot from your basic bolt ons... it could yeild as much as 5hp but nothing is gauranteed and I really doubt you'll get 10hp from it, it can also depend on your other mods... if you have any. Your car may be a 127hp engine but until it's dynoed you wouldnt know, so it could be anywhere from like 115-127... Depends on a couple things mainly on your tune up......

Some foo's gonna buy the JG cuz it's "better".

Evidently, price makes no difference. I'm gonna pick up a horsepower or two no matter which exhaust I buy, right?

I was looking at the store where h-t members get discounts at and they were advertising kamikaze (or whatever) headers for $275 or something, and they had some quote **** saying they give you 15hp... but it also says most SCers use their headers, meaning it may be a bigger pipe which I believe can hurt your power band if you're not tuned enough to handle it, bigger isnt always better, but sometimes cheaper is
look around at those headers... idn never had any experience with any headers so ask ppl here and look around for youself
Its not about price... more expensive isnt always better.. its about knowledge. You have to know what works and what doesnt.. depending on the MILLIONs of different variables there are. motor, car, street or track, mild, wild, quality?? whatever..
A LOT of times prices are soo high, cause of the demand.. and the demand gets higher once its tested and proven.. When AEM first released their Cold Air intake, SCC dyno tested it and ran their numbers in several AEM ads.. demand was high and the price for one was staggering.. another example: HyTech and SMSP headers.. the Type R guys are raving about them.. dyno proven 15-20whp.. they make real power, but the are REAL expensive..

BDC - You know the answer to your own question. Why are you trying to get a flame fest going again?
"You Only Get What You Pay For" True or False???
WTF kind of car do you have that the stock manifold is 600 bucks? Only car I can think of that has a mani that expensive is the d-series motors with the catalytic converter in the manifold. Then, duh, it is expensive because of the cat.
And honda prices are inflated anyway. I bet you'll never have a fit or smog problem with an OEM header tho.
I would recommend one to get, let us know what car this is.

I called our Honda dealer here to ask them what the list price on an exhaust manifold for the popular D-Series 1996-up Civic:
The DX with the catalytic convertor in it costs $594.91 and the gasket $11.37
The EX one without the catalytic convertor in it costs only $211.87
So you must own one with a catalytic convertor then, right?
If so then you aren't pricing headers for your car - you're pricing them for an EX for which a brand new Honda manifold costs only $211.87
So compare $211.87 to the other costs of the parts you're looking up instead of $600.00 or so because they are two totally different designs.
If you want a header you'll need to do this:
But one for an EX and then either have a testpipe made or find an EX catalytic convertor and have your exhaust shortened or buy an exhaust for an EX coupe.

Of course you get what you pay for, if you pay 259, you get a DC sports, if you pay 600, you get an oem manifold. Simple eh?
but still, some SHADY shops ship you something shitty when you paid for something else!
