Default The 150$ EG Sedan Build - new pictures 1/31

The 150$ Eg

Started off finding this 1992 eg sedan on CL for 400$ soon enough go look at it no where close to 400$ value, so talked the owner down to 150$ basically scrap value and knowing there are some good parts left depending on what I want to do.

Cons (when purchased)

Shell
Snapped Ignition / whole column bent
Half spray painted interior
Missing front side markers
Depo Front clip
94 Dash Missing about everything

4 layers of paint (original purple, then to red, to black then to blue uggghhh)

Pros:

Clean title
Worth in scrap what I paid at least lol

No performance goals. Just stock-ish daily cruiser / parts hauler

A bit of background on me small time car rebuilder / recycler, mainly Honda’s but anything that makes profit I don’t turn away.

This car was mainly built using scrap parts from 2 other cars that either there parts were useless or hadn’t sold in 4+ months..

1993 Honda Civic Ex Coupe wrecked
1994 Acura Integra RS Sedan wrecked

So after about 2 months at sitting at the shop finally got a motor (free) by selling a kid a LS swap installed and got to keep his motor, 130k good condition, new t belt, new water pump, new o2 sensor and header figured pretty good score.

Start most times by hooking up battery and seeing what works and what doesn’t, this was fun because nothing at all worked lol…. Original fuse box caught fire and was fried so had to replace that among all fuses, and all bulbs. Then finding that the tail light harness’s for whatever reason had been snipped. Fixed all those bs issues.

Had automatic dash harness so had to rip that out and throw in 5psd, also along with all new dash pieces and ex cluster / buttons, found most pieces beyond a glove box and passenger air bag laying around, had 2 passenger vents but managed to break both pulling them out. The other crappy surprise is this once had a Integra dash conversion so heater core was hacked to crap and had already gotten rid of the coupe so just living with crappy ventilation at the moment.

Other then that no other surprises beyond noticing the car had probably lost a wheel at speed and ground the nut on the lower ball joint so impossible to get off and had to take off lca’s and just replaced the whole front suspension with stock Integra (bigger brakes)

The one kind of custom aspect on this beast lol is that I didn’t have a radiator for it and one never popped up for cheap (don’t dabble in the eg / ek parts much anymore, mainly rsx / s2k) so ordered a cheapo on ebay 34$ shipped, without a fan well sense both my parts cars were toast I had to be creative and used the fan off the Integra radiator, required cutting off one oem mount off fan, drilling threw another spot and then making 2 brackets to hold the top, nothing special in all honesty being cheap and bored, but a trick if your cheap like me or just need to improvise. Clears the hood and that’s all that mattered to me.

Only mod done besides the little things is a EK console conversion, pain in the **** to do but worth the much more usable functionally of the EK console. Soon to be replaced with a din storage slot and center console (ex) but this is what I had laying around.

Said and done:

Replaced or fixed:

Under Dash Fuse box
All Fuses
All Blubs
Almost all dash pieces
Dash harness auto to 5spd
Dash Brackets for cluster
Steering Column / Ignition
Console (switched to EK)
Installed D16XXX non vtec so who cares
Front LCA’s suspension / braking system upgraded to Integra
Installed Clutch Hard / Soft Lines / Slave
Power Steering reservoir
Ignition wiring (had alarm and all cut up)
Stereo Plug Replaced

Still needs / my wants for the car:

Rear Deck / speaker covers (spray painted white)
LX / EX Doors / wiring to convert to power (kids just easier)
Passenger Vent / Passenger Air bag / Glove Box door
Wouldn’t mind replacing some tan interior parts with grey but doesn’t bug me for the price.
2dr EG front bumper w/ ek fogs
Speakers! No sound sucks.
Wheels either blades or ? I got the 14” steelies with acura hub caps ballin at the moment.

Going to paint it white once weather gets better.

Maybe someday if I get another LS from auction swap it in, more power would be nice.

150$ Cost of car
34$ Radiator
17$ Return fuel lines / replaced all hose clamps
3.29$ Corona Overflow

204.29$ Grand total, most eg sedans in my area are going for 1k so 700$ profit if decide to sell which isn’t probably gonna happen till get a even cheaper rebuild or a ex sedan, just a nice cruiser and nice not getting noticed by cops besides the mismatched paint.

Overall beyond my time one of my fulfilling projects, everything was done at almost no cost and built a great commuter / grocery getter / parts hauler. Even this isn’t some 500hp or even hardly custom project, I know It isn’t gonna let me down and that I’ve almost personally touched every bolt on the car and know everything is up to par.

More pictures to be added tomorrow, just getting late and almost finished up car.

Why? because that cheap or not worth it in your eyes?

Im gettin 6$ a dirty 100 pounds steel averaging about 100-160$ a shell (loaded of other scrap)

Even at that fenders 30$ a peice, hood 40$, 40$ bumper, 30$ head lights, 30$ core support.

Would of been 200$ just of parts plus scrap, so made money either way, car was almost entirely assembled from free / scrap parts, now bare minimum worth 800$ (my area market at least).

I almost fell outta my chair when I saw this civic!!

It really looks like my homie's civic he had then sold way back in the day.

He and his dad dropped a SOHC ZC in that bish about 10 years ago. Looks like the same ebay header he slapped on it.

He then took it to Macco and got a $300 paint job and didn't paint the jams.

This is why I think it's my boy's old 4 door.

He was living in Sherwood/Tualitan at the time but now lives in Phoenix, AZ.

Small world man. We used to bomb down 1-5 goin to Jiggles! Good times.

I'm in this one to see how the progress ends.

Its a crazy small world Ive heard from at least 5 people claiming to have seen or known or rode in this car before lol.

Story goes from the guy I got the car from is the guy before him had it running driving (last tagged march 09) it got stolen, dude gave up on the project, guy bought it yanked the motor and then sold me the shell.

I usually send cars in better shape then this to the crusher, but for some reason could never just get myself to do it, clean title and the price I'm into it.

I picked up a running S13 5spd coupe for fifty bucks once, working HUD, so I still win, but this is a slammin deal regardless.

Shell looks really good, dash/interior look remarkably clean. Bring it back!

So this project may be coming to a end, many problems coming up that cant be figured out.

Wont Start - has fuel and spark

No dash lights - but clock works and dims

None of the Heater system will work

Accessory doesnt work - acc / on do the same thing, never even seen or heard of this

Have checked all fuses / grounds

Basically if cant get a few of these problems sorted out soon, gonna yank parts and scrap it and throw motor in something else.

I look at replacing the wiring as a much bigger job then the 200$ I have into the car so cant justify it.

Any help / comments appericated

So good news, It runs!

Theres a thread in the 92-00 civic, turns out coil wasnt getting good power so had to run my own wiring / switch / relay / diode.

Still no dash lights / heater

Runs and Drives alright.... Steering is sketchy tho pulls either way randomly and just feels loose thoughts?

Other then that its been a lot longer project then expected but im still not much $$$ into it. Get a few more problems solved should be a good parts runner ( I goto Seattle and Cali alot )

Been Gone for Months, busy with the shop / personal.

So I am kinda sad in the fact I don't have a finished picture of this car, not that it was anything special just lots of time.

Story ended up being Is I got the car on the road driving, wasn't perfect nor complete but was a runner (at 40mpg too). I sold it for 600$ to buy a clean title 2000 coupe and thought that would be the end of it, well my business partner bought it back for 700$, tons of problems fixed and tinted up. He painted it white then ended up trading it to a former customer's LS swapped 95 hatch (ran shitty), and as I know of it, it lives in Newport Oregon.

She was a good friend for about the 7 months I had her, I kinda wish I had her back but maybe someday.

Total said and done, registered 318$

It was a nice build, hardly anything spent, knowing I did everything right (well that I could).

Last Pictures of her.

So as advice / warning / funny story.

On non-ac equipped civic's there is a big piece of black plastic that covers where the condenser would be, well on my civic it was still there unknown to me that it wasn't bolted down. Well about 20min into the maiden voyage down I5 car starts smelling funny then little flames start coming from side of the hood, got to the side of the highway ripping this flaming melting plastic off my header. Car smelled funky for 2ish weeks, but lucky I didn't loose the car.
