Default Installing Energy Suspension HyperFlex Master Kit this weekend, what else should I do

Guys,

I just obtained a new Energy Suspension Master Bushing kit.

I've got access to a 20 ton shop press, a few DIY's and my helms manual assisting me and I will be attempting to install it all this weekend.

The car has 157k miles on it, while I have it all apart I was considering redoing all of the lower ball joints, the outter tie rods, and the upper ball joints... I was considering doing the camber kit style upper ball joints if I can find em'.

What else should I consider replacing while everything is apart?

The CV Joints are new, I was considering doing the wheel bearings but they dont seem to be in any trouble and they're not exactly cheap.

Any suggestions on what else I should do while stuff is all apart would be really appreciated... also any tips on getting the job done if you've got any would be nice.

I hear a lotta people burn their old bushings out but with access to a press this shouldn't be a problem...

Thanks fellahs!

some bushings you have to burn out, like the LCA bushings.

Really? I used my crappy 12 ton Harbor Freight press and was able to knock these out. To the OP, hopefully the press you're using is a high quality one. The crappy press I used made popping bushings in and out a chore.

Buy extra suspension bolts before you take yours apart.

Good suggestion.

If you don't break any bolts, consider yourself very lucky.

I would be armed with PB blaster, a cut off tool, drill bits, an extra set of shock mount bolts, and LCA bolts. They're available at your local dealer.

I'm suggesting that you get new rear LCA and shock bolts, as they are known to seize to the inner bushing sleeve. It's very common that the heads will snap off when you go to remove them.

Edit: Didn't realize we were talking about a Prelude.

awesome! thanks for that bro, i didn't expect you to spoon feed it to me like that big i'm grateful for it!

so this is for the rear... what about the front though? any bolts I should consider having around for that?

I plan on dropping the ground control coilvers to the lowest or closest to low as possible...

probably about a 2.5"-3" drop I'd say...

how necessary do you guys think a camber kit will be? -- if necessary which would you guys suggest for the car?

ball joint type? the control arm type?

What do you guys suggest? what brand? where to buy?

Also I'm kinda considering doing the wheel bearings at the same time now just since **** is apart.... I'm thinking timken since I've heard good things about them in the past... any suggestions on where to buy those?

+1 There. My friend's front LCA bolt was seized to the bushing. We thought we had to perform surgery, but my cocky (but very helpful that day) friend was able to pound the living daylights out of the bolt. The bolt was toast needless to say.

I need to purchase some ball joints for my rear upper... I was considering doing the SPC adjustable but they sell two... one with a higher range of camber adjustment than the other... and i dont know which to get... does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been thinking about : 92-01 Honda Prelude/Vigor SPC Adjustable Balljoint Camber Kit - SPC - Camber Kits - Suspension - Import Auto Performance

to replace the upper ball joints on my front and rear... the problem is I dont know if I should get the "-1.5 - 1.5 degree" ones or the "1.5 - 3.0 degree" ones?

The car is dropped probably about 2" - 2.5" on ground control coils and tokico 5 way adjustables.

I dont think i really need a camber kit style ball joint, but searching a few parts places online it seems like buying just the ball joints by themselves are so expensive I figure I may as well do these adjustable style ones...

so ultimately should I get the ones that range from -1.5 to 1.5 ?? or 1.5 to 3.0 degrees?

In my experience, the rear LCA and shock bolts like to seize to the bushings. I have no idea why, but its happened on every single factory Honda I've touched. I haven't had any issues with the front personally, but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared with LCA bolts at least. Look at the suspension diagrams on the link below to figure out which bolts you want to replace.

My GC's have enough tread on the sleeve to set the car on the bump stops, I don't think you will be able to put them all the way down.

As for the camber kit, I don't run them so I have no suggestions on where to buy them. Do you need one? You will have to make that decision based on your preference and intended use of the car.

And wheel bearings, I don't have any experience with timken to offer. You can't go wrong with OEM, IMO.

I didn't realize we were talking about a Prelude, you can get those bolt part numbers from: http://www.hondapartsunlimited.com

I would replace #22, #23, and all of the others that go into a bushing.
