Default full size spare

hello all, im posting to find out about using a 14 inch steelie as a full size spare on my 94 integra ls 4dr. currently it has 15 inch steelies. i cant find a 15 inch steelie anywhere but everyone has 14 inchers. wondering if there would be an issue with this? im going cross country and need more than a stupid donut that will go flat. tia, bengmike

if you want 15" you can look for 01-05 civic steel wheels. there are bunch on ebay. or you can get a 14" with the proper tire size to match your 15". what tire size do you currently have? 195/55/15?

With either 195/55-15 or 205/50-15, you can use either 185/65-14 or 195/60-14 as the tire size for your spare, and you shouldn't have any problems doing so.

I wish Honda had made the spare tire recess in the trunk large enough to handle a full sized spare (whether or not they included one with the car).

That's really the only thing I miss about my 83 Cavalier, it actually had the space to stuff a full sized spare under the trunk floor (after removing the donut).

The Integra has enough room (i.e. in diameter) in the spare tire wellto put the full-size tire there. However, the rigid fiberboard cover that fits over the spare and makes the trunk/hatch floor flat will be raised up by a couple of inches instead of having a flat floor back there. You can remove the rigid cover if you want, but the tire will still be sticking up slightly above floor level.

Er, yes, that's what I intended to convey.

The diameter is adequate, but the depth of the space doesn't accommodate the width of the stock tire size. I suppose a 165/65-15 on a skinny wheel might fit in there, but I don't exactly consider that a "full sized" spare...

lol, exactly how the back of my hatch looks. fiberboard sitting up a few inches, almost hitting the strut bar.

You could always get a plug kit (~$10) and a mini air pump that plugs into the cig lighter in lieu of the spare. This is what I've seen on BMW E46 M3's.

It'll be lighter, too.

Good luck with that if you have anything more serious than a slow leak.

Agreed. BMWs get away with it simply because if you can afford the BMW you can afford roadside assistance. The M Coupe came with a can of "fix a flat" in the trunk instead of a spare (probably others as well)...
