Need some help (Newbie here)
I am looking at a 1986 Honda Civic 3-door hatchback. It is super clean and has 200,175 miles on it. I still have yet to find more info on it, but he is asking $2200 for it. I think this is way too high, but KBB or Nada don't have prices for cars that old.
I was thinking of offering him $1200 and see what he says.
Can anyone find a basic price for this car in this condition? I have scoured the internet but can't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Any insight about these cars would be great too!

The only place I can think of checking is craigslist, And that is only as a reference as to what the same car is going for in your area. 2,200 seams way to high if you put into consideration that most engines are going to need a decent amount of maintenance at 200,000+ miles. $1200 sounds like a fair price to me. Also keep in mind that the resale on these particular years is for some reason really low, so your probably going to struggle to get what you payed for if you plan on reselling it.
As for insight just be aware that year and model specific parts for these cars are getting harder and harder to find. These cars are seen often at junkyards but not as many as before. As for the engine any d series can be swapped in but then you have to deal with smog issues if you live in California.
Also if your mechanically inclined then I would recommend you keep looking I just bought an 86 crx hf in excellent conditions with a blown head gasket for 400 dollars. I was going to change the engine anyways so I got a great shell for a good price.

2200.00 is too high with high mileages too and I hope it's an SI model for asking that high. 1200.00 or under seems fair. I got my 86 Civic SI, original owner and 119K miles from an old lady for 325.00. The fuel pump went out and she let it sat for years.
