Default Anybody ever get a ticket for a Fuel Pressure Regulator?

My brother has a red AEM fuel pressure regulator on his 99 gsr and he was pulled over today for having no front plate. The cop told him to pop the hood and that's where he saw the AEM FPR. The cop said it was illegal because you can modify the fuel flow therefore it affects emissions. Damn cops are really harassing in my area now pulling people over for anything. Anybody ever heard of this?

My brother didn't tell the cop anything the cop knew what it was. Suprising isn't it, I was suprised myself. The cop said he took some classes I guess to help him recognize illegal parts. The cops are really starting to put the pressure on the street racers. They are looking for illegal parts and illegal/stolen engines too. I was pulled over about three days before my brother and the same thing happened to me. They checked my vin#'s on my engine to make sure they matched up with my registration. They also asked me if I had a cat and if I did was it hollowed out. I was like damn.

i got pulled over for speeding and was told to pop my hood as well...he found the silver aem FPR and made me see the cali smog ref. Sad huh. I even told the cop that the FPR is set at the stock setting and he sed it doesnt matter since its adjustable. He took about 5 mins to check out the rest of my engine and even told me to rev my car up to 3k so he can hear my exhaust. The CHP is getting very good at finding illegal parts in cars now. Beware of the CHP!

Oh Damn,
I'd be screwed then if I had to pop my JDM B16 with an illegal smog.
I can't stand this state sometimes.

Did he ask or did he tell you to pop the hood? Wouldn't he have to have probable
cause to see under your hood? I forget the legalities on this subject but then again the laws change every year.

I was asked to pop my hood before and I was like "why".. he said the exhaust (legal/Greddy Evo) was probably cause and the reason why he pulled me over... I showed him the papers and he was like "oh its a Greddy" and said he'd have to look at the exhaust.. he saw the Greddy embossed emblem on the side of the tip and said "ok".. then told me I had to pop my hood unless I wanted the car impounded because he suspected there were "illegal modifications".... from the outside all you see is that its lowered, has rims, and exhaust.. unless you look really close..otherwise my car looks stock....

I popped my hood and he ran all the VIN's and looked over my engine.... he looked at all the CARB #'s and told me if any of these numbers didn't check out w/ the dispatch station that the car would be impounded....
some cops know their stuff nowadays..I guess they have some new training or something.. dunnoz.. he even walked around all corners of my lights to see if all the lenses had DOT approval and if I had a front plate mounted and he bent down to look into the headlights (sylvania silverstars) and told me "if any of these bulbs were blue I would have cited you"

since he had nothing to cite me for and ran my drivers license for warrants and everything came back clean.. he started telling me some BS on how my moonroof was tinted.. I was like wtf? its like this stock.. I mean has anyone heard of a totally clear moonroof?.... this took about 20 minutes or so.. and I was out there in the heat in my shirt and tie on my lunch break.. ended up being late going back to work and there were no violations/citations to be made...

I feel sorry for you guys out in Cali. I'm glad I don't live in that damn state anymore!! All those environmental nutcases are really F'in everything up over there. Pretty soon they will probably mandate that everybody has to drive electric cars.

The county I live in now doesn't require smog testing.
Not to mention all the 94 octane my B18 desires.

FAWK the Police!! GODDAMN it! I can't believe all this is happening.

If I get pulled over and have to pop my hood, I don't know if I'll be ok or not.

Well, he can't see the cams and cam gears, so I guess that will be ok. But I do have a red B&M FPR with the Gauge, so he might see that and cite me also. AEM CAI and DC 4-1 Header has the Carb #, so he can't do anything about that. My exhaust is stock, so that's all good.

Last time I got pulled over was on Paseo Padre by 2 female cops. They saw me turn onto the street, and because my car looks modified, they just pulled me over and ran everything. At the time, I only had AEM CAI. So she just wrote me a BS fix it ticket for no Front Plate at the end.

They have nothing better to do...

i heard sac NOW has a zero tolerance for street racing.. so im not surprised. my boys recently got pulled over at sac after the illegals and the cop told them about sac's zero tolerance and then let em go. he was a cool cop. the ones who pull u over for stupid **** like that are usually rookies.

I used to live in Modesto. I'm so glad I live in Salt Lake now!

When I went back to Cali last summer in my 626 with intake/exhaust/blue lights.... i got hassled by one cop... then he realized I had UTAH plates and kinda had to stick his foot in his mouth! He was giving me all this **** about exhaust and my lights, and I just told him, "I pass safety and emissions at home with this stuff, and ive only been here 9 hours and you are already hassling me!" As he threw my license at me and told me to drive slow, I then continued to leave 2 black marks from the spinning tires as I pulled away! He knew just as well as I knew, the ticket he gave me would have been in vain! I wouldnt have paid it!

FYI, cali sucks!

smdandb2: if you really layed down 2 black marks/burn out tracks as you pulled away if he was a real a$$ he could have flipped on the lights again and cited you for something like exhibition of speed or something...

MugenGTR: that incident above happened in Pasadena on 210E....

I had a similar incident happen in Hollywood but the cop in Hollywood didn't ask me to pop my hood.. he just looked over my exhaust, told me he "didn't want to read all that' regarding the Greddy papers.. I was like theres not much to read.. it says it complies w/ CA V.C 27151 or whatever... then he proceeded to check out all my head lights, turn signal bulbs and then tells me that "your lucky you have your front plates on" I was like whatever... I didn't do anything else wrong... I saw him hiding behind about 3 cars behind me so I drove speed limit... he followed me for about 3-4 blocks until I was making a left turn then he flicked on his lights while I was on the left turn lane WTF? this was on a busy *** street (Sunset Blvd) too... and he tries to pull me over on a left turn lane..
