Default block usable?

so i had bought a block from a guy for cheap.
well turns out part of the block is broken and idk if its still usable.

doesnt seem like its cracked anything but i dont want to run the risk of using it and having it crack like crazy on me. my friend told me that it is still usable as long as the chip isnt all the way through the block.

thoughts? im thinking of just getting a bare block and swapping everything over.

D series, I'd junk it. B series, I'd get it welded up and fixed. I'm sure someone with a TIG machine could build that back up and make it like new.

hmm would it be cheaper to get another bare block or just get it welded and fixed? idk how much that would cost me to get it welded.

ya if you still have that piece any good welding shop should be able to securely weld that back on or build it up and re-thread, should be good as new.

good luck

might be cheaper to get it fixed. I'd bring it to a couple shops and see what they'd charge.

Make sure to clean it up really well. Ask them to beef that area up. It seems to be a common place for motors to break. It will have to be rethreaded, I'd put Timeserts in, or Heli Coils. That would be better than putting bolts straight into aluminum.

How much did you buy the block for? If you scrap it, you won't get much... I brought a load in and got $30.

Yup, they can just build it up with weld. They'll just lay down bead after bead of weld.
