WD-40 has never failed me, only thing that bothers me is the smell. Is that being too girly?

The April/May 2007 edition of Machinist's Workshop did a test of penetrating oils where they measured the force required to loosen rusty test devices. Buy the issue if you want to see how they did the test. The results reported were interesting. The lower the number of pounds the better. Mighty interesting results for simple acetone and tranny fluid!

Penetrating oil . Average load .. Price per fluid ounce
None ................. 516 pounds .
WD-40 .............. 238 pounds .. $0.25
PB Blaster ......... 214 pounds .. $0.35
Liquid Wrench ... 127 pounds .. $0.21
Kano Kroil ........ 106 pounds .. $0.75
ATF-Acetone mix.. 53 pounds .. $0.10

The ATF-Acetone mix was a 50/50 mix (1 to 1 ratio)."

The lower the number, the less the torque required to remove a rusted fastener. Liquid Wrench is almost twice as effective as WD-40,
and ATF-Acetone is almost 5 times as effective as WD-40.

WD stands for water displacement. It's not meant to be used for the myriad of things people us it for. Liquid Wrench is better suited to loosening things.

Acetone is available at any paint or hardware store. ATF= automatic transmission fluid. Mix the two in equal volumes.

I just use a few drops of regular motor oil, then come back in about 20 minutes. Sometimes I'll use PB Blaster, but I can usually get stuff off with air tools, motor oil, or with heat.

It's mostly mineral spirits (paint thinner) and mineral oil (baby oil) with some fragrance added.

If it's choice between LW and WD-40, LW is a better penetrating oil, no question.

I haven't tried the ATF/Acetone formula, but one thing to consider is that it may be less convenient to use than a product in handy pressurised spray can. Just something to consider.
