hey guys, i'm new to the forums. i'll make this my introduction thread and my "i need help" thread. lol.
well, my name's minty. i recently bought an '89 crx si with a b18b and b16a tranny. i have not been into imports since over 8 yrs ago. i brain washed myself from imports after i got into motorcycles and working on them. i feel a bit clueless and lost of where abouts i should start with this project and fixing it. regarding the motor swap, i really don't know what else i need or should do with it. there's also cold air intake, it's straight piped, no cat. uhm.. that's about all i can pinpoint ATM...
i'll have pics up asap. i know it might help a bit more with pics up... but any suggestions or feedback?
ANY WOULD BE APPRECIATED! THANKS!!

if you live in Cali I would just get a high flow Legal cat.
the B18 with B16 tranny set up you got is nice! I say Vtec head swap save money and make okay power.
Got any pics of the car and setup..... And you!

that's the thing.. don't really have a goal for it. it was bought to be a daily driver for work. but after driving an import again, i started itchin' and got tempted to fix it up. like i've mentioned, i don't know much about cars anymore...

my car is registered in cali for now. but i might register it to vegas since vegas is where i live.
I would start with replacing any gaskets or seals that may be leaking, as well as replacing the timing belt. It would be a good idea to change all the fluids as well.

i'm actually on top of that.
i already changed the oil and made sure there weren't any leaks before i bought the car. my dad's a mechanic and came with me to look at the car before i purchased it. he was actually happy with my purchase and choice. although he doesn't know about fixing up cars like that imports and whatnot.

i just clicked on your pic and first words that came out where "holy sh*t" haha
as for the car.... take it apart and see what rust lies beneath, it seems like the American CRX's are full of rust... imo, thats where i would start.

that means i gotta steal the cherry picker from daddy.. haha
cherry picker? hmm what about one of these? doesnt everyone have an excavator laying around? this is my crx btw
want my opinion? first mod should be installing one of those by pass filters aem sells. would be a shame to see you post up in a few weeks "freak rain storm... now car wont start..." or something along those lines. second mod: full tune up if it has not been done already. flush coolant and brake fluid, replace the t belt, new cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, drain the trans and install new tranny fluid, make sure the rubber brake lines are in good condition, one blew out on me when i had to make a sudden stop and i almost rear ended some one... scary day that was. any ways, just check all the basics to make sure it is reliable.
third thing (and this is for show or bling)
wire tuck. makes an engine bay (especially our tinyish ones) seem less crowded
might want to considder paint? just a thought.
these are what i see should be done if i owned it.

thanks DCRB. will definitely look into all of the above mentioned. however, i kinda like the primer. hahaha
i'm not worried about the looks so much. if i wanna get the fresh paint and whatnot, my friend has an autobody shop that hooks me up dirt cheap and a nice *** job too!

Minty,
Your CRX looks good. The body looks pretty straight. I do not like the Red valve cover and intake but that is just cosmetic. A Gsr or B16 head will make you happy

i second that. LSV is the way to go. if you are satisfied with the power increase then you are 90% ready to do a full build or just swap in a C5 motor and call it a day
sorry they closed the other thread, but the reason why i asked if you stunt is bc i was born and raised in vegas, sadly i dont live there anymore but i have family still there..some of my family stunt, some of them are Ruff Ryders...so just wonderin....

oh.. well, my tandem stunt partner is Nick Apex. I don't ride with RR. I don't ride with a lot of people. I'm usually solo or with a few friends or at the spot. But Nick's been real busy lately with family and his shows. So yeah... who are your fam members that stunt? I might have ran into them before..

Vegas here, too.
Been out of the Import game for about 6-7 years now myself. *sigh*.
The itch never completely goes away. Just switches from cars, to motorcycles, to [insert fix here].

phatwhippin - i live off of jones from the 215.

That's pretty F'n accurate, actually. Minus the recreational drug use, I'm too old for that **** now.
and-
Jones/215, North end or South End?
There's a few fast imports rolling around town I see from time to time. Mostly EG/EK hatches and other misc stuff (old-school supras, Talon TSi, and a few nasty WRX/EVOs).
Anywho, that B18 with B16trans is a pretty sweet setup for cruising around town. Unlike with the B16, you're not quite rocketing around @ 8k RPMs just to get going everywhere, lol.
What'd you end up paying for it, if you don;t mind?
