Alright guys due to my current mods on my crx I am stuck in SM2 class. I would like to go run a few times next season and attempt to put down some decent times. This is a street car and I understand I will not be very competitive but I am just going out to have some fun. My current setup is

91 crx si
K sport coils with stock rates (560 F/ 336 R) I know I should probably swap to a stiffer rear but this is a street car
ST adjustable rear sway bar stock front si sway bar
Poly bushings all around
Ingalls camber kit (ball joint UPCA kit)
ETD gen 3 traction bar
d16z6 and I have plans for that I am posting in the all motor section

I am going to buy a dedicated auto-x wheel/tire setup and I would like suggestions as to offset, width, and tire selection. I am open to all suggestions and any help is appreciated feel free to flame as it will not bother me. Thanks

ok so with what you said..not going to be competitive(??) and it is a street car as it also seems as if your budget is tight due to not wanting to change some stuff soo...

id say. get some 15x7 slips with +35/40 offset. grab some 615s and call it a day. ill try to remember the online store but i got 615s for 81 dollars a piece shipped if i remember right good luck and f the cones.

 

If it were mine, I'd also get rid of the front sway bar, since the front spring rates are plenty high enough, then dial in -2.5 camber up front, and set the toe to zero on all four corners. The car will be improved out on course, and still perfectly fine for street duty.

DONT by 615s... they're too noisy and harsh for the streets and quite a poor track tire compared to the current ST tires. Kuhmo XS or Dunlop Star Specs will be a much better tire on and off the track for nearly the same price!

15x7 Rota's, Koseis, or TR motorsports wheels will be a perfect fit in the sub-14# range.

 

If your region is running the new SMF class, you should do that. It's an easier PAX than SM2 or SM.

For a dedicated setup I think the best for a CRX would be 255/40-13 Hoosier A6 fronts on custom 13x10's, but that'll require front fender cutting. Next best without cutting might be the 225/45-13 A6's on cheap 13x8 Rota RB's, or 225 or 205/45-15 on 15x7.5 Slips or whatever cheap light 15x7's you can find. You'll need the fenders rolled at least, and 35-40 offset would be best. Get more info on 13x10 backspacing before you go that route; and last I checked Diamond Racing custom 13x10's would run $400ish for 4.

 

sounds good, the wheel/tire setup would be for track only. I would rather not cut the fender so I will probably look into the 225/45-13. I have an integra front brake setup so I think I need to run a slightly larger rim, I guess I can change back to the si front brakes. And you are suggesting a 13x10 in wheel for the rear?

so I should lose the front sway bar for track day? any other suggestions?

what are the disadvantages of running without a front sway bar....slalom??

 

the si brakes will also allow you to loose some rotating mass. the extra braking force will not be needed in an auto-x, and some would argue not even in track days. just make sure you get damn good brake pads. i have Axxis ULT's on my integra and love them, but the Hawk hp+'s are better.

 

seeing that your setup is unconventional, you might need to do some testing. i would worry more about the nut behind the wheel though, unless you have that covered ;-)

 

Yes, the slalom will be a little tougher, but you'll gain corner exit speed to help make up for it. I think with the high front spring rates you'll be stiffer up front than many competitive civic/crx's even without the bar.

Now all my autox experience (about 5 years in the CRX) is on street tires. If you're running on R-comps, you might try it out with the front sway bar on for a few runs then disconnect it. You'll see how you lose some here and gain some there, but one run will be overall fastest. My general theory is whichever way gives you more speed in the slowest parts of the course will be the way to go.
