Default 94 accord EX f22b / vtec won't engage

i got a 94 accord ...automatic

i got the car from a guy that put the engine in after the last person locked up the engine.

i figure he put the orginal trans....cause after 6 months the filter stoped up and the car wouldn't move. i had a junk yard one put in and now the vtec tends to not engage.

basically when i drive it the C.E.L. comes on after it shifts....into second

i've look at a few topics but need more info....

You need to check out the codes and fix them. Some codes prevent VTEC engagement.

i'm going to now cause i thought it was lack of oil but guess not....but it doesn't do it all the time...there be times when my vtec bangs hard and then when the light is on its seems to have a slower acc.

and what RPM did VTEC engages? There's only certain RPM on these motors. VTEC engagement on these are not like an H22.

um....im not sure considering its a automatic.....but i think it engages at 4 rpm.
its not a h22 it the sohc f22....2.2L/sline

i also just found out that i have an oil leak ...but its not my valve cover or anything like that....its on the left back side of the engine....

my friend grey (an honda tech) told me that my distbu gasket went bad and is leaking

never heared of anything like that..

So remove 3 12mm bolts, pop off distributor, change the $0.50 o-ring, and put it back on?

I know its a F22B1 SOHC VTEC. I'm saying that when VTEC engages on those B1 engines, they don't engage the way an H22 would. VTEC engages from 3.2K-3.8K(somewhere around there) only. It doesn't engage above or any higher than that. So thats why I said, it doesn't engage like any other DOHC VTEC engine from previous post.

its werid not having v-tec(untill this morning ).....can a car run normal without putting more stress on the engine > running without vtec?

Yes, the last CEL that was on will be stored in the ECU. Some CEL I heard will prevent VTEC from engaging. Yes, a car can run w/o VTEC and still drives fine but you just won't feel it at all.

My H22 ran fine with no VTEC for almost two weeks because I mixed up the VTEC pressure switch with the thermostat sensor housing.

[QUOTE=The(704)kid;41104005]i also just found out that i have an oil leak ...but its not my valve cover or anything like that....its on the left back side of the engine....QUOTE]

is it coming from near a small cilinder that sticks up from around the back left corner of the valve cover? if so that sounds like the vtec control solenoid. there is an o-ring that can cause a leak. the o-ring is cheap like 4 bucks from the dealer (unfortunatly its a dealer specific, most shops wont have a clue what you are talking about.) i'll pull up the part number in a little while and try to find my pics of it

When they put the transmission in they had to take the old on off the org. an put it on the "New" one....also the t. converter had to be taken off too....

but yes they did...the only problem is its off by 4 mph but that doesn't matter....

my C.E.L. still hasn't came back on.....i've been letting it warm up for 10 mins and been driving it like a grandma....

other then that i haven't had a problem since...
also a minor note...it did do this before i relpace it (Transmission).....

I have a 93 accord automatic with a 94 sohc vtec motor. The guy I bought it from said he put the trans from the 93 non vtec motor in it. He didnt change the computer for the engine or trans. The car shifts high and hard and doesnt go into 4th. Ant tips on what to do. change the trans, computers, selinoids etc. Thanks

Get an OBD1 P0A VTEC computer. That will help your shifts and it will engage VTEC as well. The stock 93 computer is non VTEC.

Check the FAQ for VTEC swaps into the 4th gen, CB7, 90-93 Accord and you will see that there are a couple wires that are also required to add VTEC.

Thanks for the input. Believe it or not my vtec does engage. I think he may have changed the ecu but not the tcu. Should i change the tcu and the silenoids and see if that works.
