DC5 Clunking issue
First of, Sup, names josh own a 03 type s. mods, intake, system, slammed,17.5 bronze tenzo's, future mods- CAI, test pipe, exhaust, RBC, KPRO.
Im a member of CRSX, ive searched there and looked around here.
either way here it is.
Ive read the 05-06 problem with the spring, i dont think thats the problem i have. Ive read a bunch of threads about the clunking noise, but mine seems different, when the clutch is engaged, it clunks, when the clutch is released the noise stops, even if im moving at 60 plus. doesnt seem to matter if i turn the wheel. I'm trying to figure all this out so i can order the parts before i get back from my deployment, and fix it right when i get back.
Cliffs-
Pass side front clunk
clunks when clutch engaged only.
trying to order parts to fix before im home from deployment.
Thanks

Does it sound like it's coming from the suspension? Do you feel the "clunk" in the steering wheel? Does it only happen when you are turning? Do you ever hear it going over bumps? What suspension are you running, and did you do the install yourself? Has the noise always been there, when did it start if not?

have you done any investigating other than forums....like try taking off the wheel and looking around or jack the car up and get underneathe to see if you can see anything that is off or weird??
I'm no mechanic, but i looked when i changed my oil and when i put the car on jackstands before i left. i didnt see anything dripping, cracked snapped or whatever.
Could be a loose bolt. As for only hearing it when the clutch is in, that could be because there is less of a load on the axel/suspension assembly so then the bolt is alowd to clunk around. Now, that is just a guess but I've seen it happen before.
If you are in nuetral rolling at say 25mph, will you hear the noise, or specifically only if the clutch is in. Do you have an aftermarket header?

Does the clunk only happen once, or will it happen as your rolling numerous times over if the clutch is in? Sometimes, when I push my clutch in quick I will get a clunk from my sway bar hitting my header because the load on the motor being let go and rocking back and forth.

when im rolling at any speed with the clutch pressed, it stops clunking, its a repetitive clunk, when the clutch is engaged (in gear, moving) its a clunk-clunk-clunk-clunk, it speed up with the speed/rpm
I'm not sure the recommended time of when you should change your axles, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt, especially if the car is beat on at all. Yes they spin when ever the wheel is spinning, which wouldn't explain the noise going away when the clutch is pressed... odd.
I don't know O_o
Does the car shift gears fine? Could just make the noise because there is a higher load on the axles when the clutch is engaged, then when it is disengaged the load is relieved and that axle spins easier? This is quite frustrating lol.

yeah, i have the occasional k series grind. bro tell me about it, i have to pay for this **** to get fixed.
axles are realitively cheap for a k-motor, $80 from autozone i think...we had a bunch of axles break at the last track day.....they are pretty easy to fix as well, if you know your honda..
ehh, not going to dealership, ill strip it down, rip out the tranny, re-build it, replace synchros, install TSX 6th, replace axles, new clutch, if that doesnt fix it, ill just turn the radio up.
