Considering a 2010 Civic Si
I'm considering a 2010 Civic Si coupe, and I wanted to get the opinions that some current owners have on the car. This will be my 1st car, I'm turning 16 next month.
When my dad and I test drove the car, I felt that the seats were extremely uncomfortable. The sound the turn signals made was also really obnoxious. Those were my only two problems with the car, so I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to either of these problems, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on the car in general.
Thanks!

You're 16 and getting a 2010 SI??... wow must be nice.. good stuff.
The seats you'll get used to just try diff settings and if the turn signal sound is your only problem, you'll get over it real quick once you really get to enjoy this car lol..

I was wondering whether the seats eventually soften up as well. I guess I would get used to the turn signals though.
trust me the stock system is pretty sick.. it'll drown out the noise of the signals..
I bought my Si used so I couldn't tell you if the seats soften up.. have you driven in many cars because don't forget this isn't no luxury car.. the seats are racing seats not somethin out of 7 series lol..

I thought the seats were great compared to my 99 Si. You can change the seats and the turn signals were fine with me too. Keep it in vtec and you won't hear the sounds.

7 series seats are heaven...
So no complaints about the Si?
^^ well mine is an '06 so I have my typical "used" car issues but I think you should have no more than any other brand new car.. hopefully someone on here as an '10 and can inform you more..
When do you get it?

My birthday is January 25th, but it could be next week, or a few days after my birthday. Just depends when we find the right one. And my dad designs car haulers for Honda, Toyota, BMW, and pretty much any other brand, so he may be able to get a discount on an Si.
the reason the turn signals are loud is so that when you change lanes, you'll remember to turn them off.
and the seats are extremely comfortable.
i dont know how you find them uncomfortable.
also just letting you know that u can adjust the height of the seat.
maybe thats why you felt uncomfortable.

wierd... anybody that's ever sat in my car has mentioned how comfortable the seats are. as for the turn signals, that's being pretty picky; the thought of how they sound has never crossed my mind. they're just turn signals.
any cons for the car? i know this is a honda forum so our opinions are bias but we can at least be realistic about what we dont like about it and not disillusion the kid
we obviously know the pros:
great engine, has plenty of potential
LSD
Close ratio 6-speed tranny
8k redline
safety features
just a few to name off the top of my head
i'll start, i wish it had just a bit more torque and bi-xenon or at least xenon projector headlights

Brand new SI + 16 year old = trouble. Regardless of how "good" you are. These posts are almost universally "famous last words" a kid on the local forum has his dad buy him a brand new GTI if I recall and it was totaled within a month.
*edit* I'm looking for that thread, but in all seriousness (which I'm sure you and your blind dad won't heed) is to get a more realistic car for your first one that won't tempt you or give you the option to go fast. You'll say you won't be dumb and you'll be responsible but you know if your friend in his **** box V6 Mustang starts revving at a stop light you're going to gun it with him. Or you'll race from point A to point B against another friend, etc.
I know, I've been there. So has every other member for the most part.
*edit2*
Whoops, it was a RX8 or S2000. He got the S2000. He posted a month later with a horrible horrible wreck, he was speeding (60+ on a gravel road near his house that "he knew") and lost control. Car hit several trees and he was lucky to be alive. Read the first post though, pretty much identical to yours.

The wreck thread was "blackholed" because of the amount of flaming / "i told you so's" / etc.

^^ That's true.. when I was 17 I shared my moms '01 Pontiac Grand Am GT and did foolishness in that.. So I can only imagine what mess I would be in if I owned a Si back then..
Maybe he will not be like the typical teenager/new car gone bad story..

My dad is leaning towards the EX coupe, which is still nice, but everyone and their mother has a plain Civic. But if I do get an EX, we'll upgrade the wheels to something that doesn't belong on a Buick. haha
i have an 09 si i got brand new and the drivers seat is awsome. I have been in the passenger seat and i completely hate it, its way too high! I wish honda would of put the same height adjusting lever like they did on the drivers side. Car is a blast to drive but i also feel like the motor moves too much when changing gears. Nothing a ETD or stiffer mounts cant fix but for a performance car i feel like they could of made it just a tad bit more stiff from factory. But car is awsome non the less! i already installed a RH and catback and car sounds sick and is even more of a blast to drive. Ohh i also have HIDs so that helps it too

First story: A very responsible friend of mine bought a used RX7 as his first car. He put a lot of money into upgrades, etc etc. It was wrecked within six months. His RX7:

He then bought an MR2. Put money in it for upgrades, etc. Heres the final product of that endeavor:

Anyway, the lesson here is this: GET SOMETHING YOU WON'T REGRET GETTING LATER. You can say you are a great driver and ignore us, but heres some pretty vivid imagery of what happens when new drivers get sporty cars. It doesn't work out.
EDIT: Left out the second story
My best friend learned to drive in an automatic 97 Camry. He drove it for a year, never got into an accident. His dad then bought him a new Scion tC. Still, has never had an accident. It's always better to learn in a weak car first because it is less tempting to showboat and you get the driving experience you need before getting something more dangerous.
My advice: Buy a 90-00' Civic hatch or sedan, learn in that, then sell it and take the leftover money and buy something better a year or so later at the very least. Besides, I personally find older cars more fun to drive. Maybe you will too.

I forgot to mention it, but my dad has said for the last ~2 years that he'll put on a limiter at 80mph and a GPS tracking device, so he's going to know how fast I'm going, and where I'm at.
But still, I do see the advantages of what you're saying...
