Tick Tick Tick still tickin after valve adjustment
It doesnt sound too bad, you used the correct tools and let the car sit over night be4 u did the valve adjustment correct? You can tell better where the sound is comming from if u stick ur ear in a pipe up to the head, cause i mainly hear the injectors.
Well, I decided to pull off the valve cover today since I was needing to replace the valve cover grommets and what do ya know...most of the valves were loose as can be. I readjusted today and the ticking has gone way down. Weird that the first time around I actually made it worse. And yes the car had sat overnight before the adjustment and I was using the valve adjustment tool.
readjust them and try again.. you may want to use a lil bit of light teflon or something that isnt too strong, but will hold the nuts on there.. Sounds like they were vibrating loose.. i have used a real then teflon tape a few time, and seemed to work fine.. but not alot.. just enough to take the slack out of it..
i would never used teflon tape inside of the engine...for any circumstances. If you didnt torque down the nuts properly then thats why the came loose.
sorta ot but im planning on doing my valve adjustment soon, can you use a wrench/screwdriver to adjust the valves on 2000 gsr, or do you need the special tool?

Would highly recommend using the valve adjustment tool. You can pick up one that is made by Powerbuilt for around $15 bucks shipped. Or get the blue point valve adjustment tool for $60 bucks. Just make sure you don't use the valve adjustment tool to break the nuts and tighten the nuts...use a real 10mm socket for that as putting extraneous pressure on that valve tool is gonna cause it to break.
I used a 10 mm closed end wrench that I had bent at both ends to tighten the bolts while I held the adjuster screws with a small screwdriver. It was only $10 to buy the wrench and have it bent at a local tool repair shop.
okay i found the tool for 12.99 on amazon.com! one last question, do you have to check the gap of the cam lobe in the middle, or just the two outer one's? sorry for the newb question! haha..
what are you guys talking about a valve adjustment tool, i used feeler gauges, and wrenches and a torque wrench for tightening
the tool just makes it easier to do. i think cause gsr/type r heads have less clearance to use a wrench than ls heads on the jamnuts.
Correct the Vtec head is deeper down than the LS head which means that you need to bend your feeler gauges or buy angled ones. Your checking 16 valves 4 on each cylinder 2 intake and 2 exhaust.
