Default rusted hood

so i've seen tons of people doing the rusted hood thing, but what happens when it rains? does the rust drip and spread onto the fenders/bumpers/and everything else? does everything else get infected?

Rust only affects unprotected metals.
And most of these cars have just surface rusted hoods.
So it will run but it washes off easy.

Besides looking like a dick driving around with that bullshit I'd imagine it would just rinse off in the rain. Only thing I might worry about is if it's left on there it might stain the paint on the bumper or fenders, but I don't know

how about sand all the paint off of it and then clear it-

so you will have a bare metal hood that doesnt rust

I have an old damaged hood that Ive had rusted out for about 3.5 years.
The rust has never run or dripped down onto the paint during rain or snow, so you have nothing to worry about.

Ive seen that done on an EM1 at Eibach. It had the hood and roof covered in woodgrain.

The roof looked dope.

I hope your not comparing a finished and decent looking hood to a rusted POS.

One is an unprotected metal exposed to the elements and the other is a weave pattern covered in glaze, how are they not different smarty pants?

It's called personal preference. Just because you don't like the way rusted hoods look doesn't mean other people can't dig them.

Once again, personal preference. And are you really going to attempt to argue that people put carbon fiber hoods on for their lightweight qualities? You'll save a measly 30 lbs or so with a carbon fiber hood, and most of the people who get them like to hardpark around their hood, not take their car out to the track.

I wasn't talking about their qualities, per se. More or less, the fact that they're two different types of exterior changes that somebody can make to their car. Similar to how you could rock a real Mugen lip and I could be rocking an OEM Si lip.

It's not like everyone actually swaps to carbon fiber hoods for the weight savings, anyway. I like the way carbon fiber looks myself, and similar to a rusted hood, people rock them because they look good in their opinion. No need to clutter a thread dedicated to rusted hoods and people who dig them with irrelevant information about how you think it's dumb, looks ugly, played-out.

People do what they do because they like it, no need to hate.

I think he's referring to the fact that neither serves a real purpose. Sure a CF hood is maybe 10-15lbs lighter than stock, but a car with a CF hood will not perform any different than a car with a normal hood.
Now if the car is completely gutted, with lexan windows, and extreme measures have been taken to remove every last pound, then you can convince me that a CF hood has a purpose.
But lets be honest here, for 90% of the people on here rocking CF hoods, its merely a fashion statement. No different than someone who's rocking a rusted hood.
Well, I guess there is a difference of about $400-$500. lol
