What does everyone think of this car?
So I have been trolling this board for years, never owning a R just enviously gawking at my dream car. I currently drive a Evolution 8 that I'm ready to sell for my first love. I came across this low mileage 2001 phoenix yellow Type R and I'm seriously considering buying, but first I wanted to get everyones opinion. Has anyone seen this car on the boards before? Is this a good price? Is there anything that I should look out for? Thanks in advance

You'll end up paying more than 20k after taxes. Personally I wouldnt pay that much for a type R. It is clean as hell though.
If you are inlove with the ITR, and plan on keeping that car forever, I'd go for it. I paid 4k less for the same exact year with 100k on it. I deffinitly think it is worth it, but I look at the ITR as more then a car as opposed to others who don't feel the same way about the car as I do.

Chances are becomming more and more slim of finding ITR's like these. If you plan on just driving it for a few years then reselling, go with something a little less expensive. That car is last year of production, from the pictures it looks like it's in immaculate condition, I'd deffinitly spend the money and enjoy that car forever. Almost makes me want to sell my PY '01 ITR and buy one with less miles on it.
I don't think so. How many clean and 98% original ITRs do you see nowadays that have less than 30K miles on them?
If I go to sell mine this spring, I'm asking around $20K for it--but mine has less miles and is in slightly better condition (no seat fading, etc).
When ITRs with 100K miles on them are still selling for $14K-$15K, then a nice example will definitely be worth a premium.
OP--I'm sure you can talk them down some, but I wouldn't delay because kids who worshiped the ITR in high school now have enough money to buy them and clean ones go quick. Actually I think they price they are asking isn't too bad, all things considering.

That price is definitely in line with the market, like everybody else said though try to get some wiggle in there.
A mint 00 PY with 36k in my neighborhood just sold private party a few weekends ago for 16k.

I bought an '01 with 27k back in March of '07 that was posted for $19k, and I got it for $18k. Well worth it IMO. ITR's this clean and low of mileage don't come around too often. To find another one in this condition you would have to be really patient. It really depends on what your plans with the car are and how important it is to you. I'd say the price for what your getting is completely ballpark. It is the asking price, so probably a little negotiable. Good luck with whatever you decide on!
You do know about the theft issue right? Make sure you have a garage before you own an R.

My 98 has under 20k miles and all of the panels/paint are original and matching. If I was to sell her, I would ask about $20k. That R is only worth $20k if it has no accidents (at all) and the numbers all match. Otherwise I would pass for what they're asking.
This ITR was on ebay and the auction ended yesterday. The buy it now price was $19K and it had a reserve on it. Looks like the highest bid was $16,655 which didn't meet the reserve price. According to the ebay vehcile history report, clean title and not accidents. Screen shot attached. If you login and do a advance search on ebay with completed auction using the keyword "Integra type r" and sort by "Highest price first" the listing will pop up. Screen shot attached.
Hope this helps.

The clean carfax just means that there were no accidents reported/claimed. If someone pays out of pocket for a repair, it won't be on a carfax. I would want to check it out in person. It looks like a good car but I would hate to spend $20k on it and find out after the fact that it was hit. On a regular car maybe it's not a huge deal but with an R it's a whle different ballgame, especially since your paying 2x book value.
Im very aware of the theft issues, this car will be garaged at work and home. I'm not going to be taking any chances. Now I have to sell my car, will see how that goes. I'm going to post in on autotrader and CL today. If I sell my car soon and that car is still available I'll be making a trip to chicago

That R at that price is ballpark as everyone is stating.
With an R in that condition, some other things to think about would be, is this going to be a DD, whether you plan on modifing it or is this going to be a garage queen? If you plan on DD it or throwing a K-series in it, I personally would look for a different R.
