04 accord 5-manual, code p0420
My check engine light came on last night and I had the pcm scanned this am at Autozone. The result: code p0420, catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank1. I think this means the cat needs to be replaced.
The car has 65,000 miles on it. Does anyone know if it is still covered under the emissions warranty? I live in MA and I believe the automatic version is covered for 15 yrs, 150,000 miles as a PZEV vehicle. However, my vehicle is a manual. Does this mean it falls under the federal 3 yrs, 36,000 mi umbrella?
Cats are expensive and I'm crossing my fingers that it is still under warranty.
Best.

Try to set up a appointment with your local Honda dealer. You may be covered under the "goodwill" policy.
Just be very friendly about it and your chances are good that they might cover you

so the check engine light was on last night, and again this am when i took it to autozone. i had to drop my sister off in CT today, about a 120mi trip one way. the check engine light was on the entire time. however, when i started the car 5 min after dropping her off the light was no longer on. the light stayed off the entire drive home.
i don't get it. but i'll take it.

You would probably be covered under the 10 years/150,000 miles or 15 years/150,000 miles AT-PZEV emissions warranty. The AT stands for Advanced Technology.

I believe there still is a Federal 8 years/80,000 miles emission warranty for other cars.

thanks for your help, guys. the check engine light went off on its own after 3 cold starts. go figure. it has been off for about two weeks.
for future reference, when the light first went on the ambient temp had dropped 20 degrees in a few hours and with a wind chill was below zero when i took my brother home at midnight. also, the gas tank was a mix, about 65% 93 octane to 35% 87 octane, only because i received a coupon from my local shell for $$ off 10 gallons or more of 93 octane so the difference in price was a wash. normally, 97% of the time, i stick with 87.
i don't know if either or both of these factors had an impact on the check engine light coming on resulting in a p0420 code. i'm just glad it is off.
