Brakes squealing after pad change
Put new hawk hp+ pads on the R and now they make a terrible squealing noise at low speed.
I inspected the rotors and they still look good. I don't hear any noise above 10mph, but any breaking below this, I get a terrible noise.
Ive changed my brakes many times before and never had this issue...
Maybe the pads are dragging slightly on the rotors?

According to hawk they're gonna make a little bit of noise. I dont know how severe your situation is though. When I had hawk hps' on my s2k I broke them in according to hawks instructions and they were quiet as stock. Hope that helps.
Will any high temp grease do?

Does it squeal when your foot is off the brakes at low speed? Or when you applied the brakes at low speed?
If it's the former, most likely you have brake dust or debris trapped somewhere when you changed the pads. Spraying it with brake cleaner should help. If it's the latter, then I guess it's just the properties of the pads (I haven't used them personally so I can't say for sure).

Spraying the brake pad directly with brake cleaner? That doesn't sound good...
It was squealing a bit before the pad change over as well.

Brake cleaner evaporates quickly. I don't see or haven't encountered any problem spraying it to the pad or rotor surface directly. Just keep it away from the paint and plastic/rubber.
re: the pad shims...
were the shims on those pads that composite material that is sorta like a rubberized thin kevlar? i just installed a set of hawk ceramic pads on my wife's si and these were the first i've every installed with neat damper shims like that.
if they weren't...then i suggest putting disc brake quiet on the shims. it's not lube, it's a somewhat tacky...sorta rubbery coating that dampens the pad harmonics.
but you do mention that it was doing this before the change too...hmm
when it's making the noise...does it change when you turn the steering wheel while it's making the noise? i'm curious if there is something in-between the backing plate and the rotor, or the backing plate itself is just BARELY touching it...i've seen that many times.

It does make the noise while turning the wheel as well. Which backing plate are you refering too?
re: shims, i can honestly say i've never NOT used shims, either stocks ones with disc brake quiet, or like i said sometimes they have included ones that are a rubbery kevlar type (textured tiny weave), like the hawk ceramics i just installed.
did the pads before this have shims?
But yes, any high temp grease should do. Honda sells a little ~2oz bottle for like $12 which is a rip-off. I use this stuff since it's rated up to 2800 F:

Got around to working on the R today.
Made sure everything was cleaned, and greased up this time. I had new rotors so I figured while I had everything apart again, I might as well install them too.
The sliders did have some grease on them, but I added more, and its nice and quiet again!
Because I changed the rotors at the same time i can't say for certain that it was one or the other...Im just happy it isn't making noises anymore.

Got the local acura dealer to check it out and they said the pads were really cheap (hawk hp+) and were causing the squealing. Wasn't impressed by that answer.
I didn't grease between the pad and the caliper with brake quiet or grease, and that's the last thing it could be. The calipers are operating as they should apparently.
Im going to try it again and see if it works.
OT...while at the dealer I got some horrible leakdown and compression numbers...more money...
They wanted $10,000 for a re-build!!!!!! LOL

All grease is not the same. Look for Anti squeal grease when you go to the parts store. just wear gloves when you apply it. That stuff gets everywhere and doesnt come off clothes very easy.

yeah, the typical disc brake quiet i think is made my CRC and is a red tacky stuff. you just put the pads face down and spray a quick spray on the back. let it sit for a second to set up, and at that point it shouldn't be messy at all, just tacky.
like i said, i've never had this issue, ever, and used OE shims or the type that comes on the pads already (ie hawk ceramic)...and when using regular shims, i always use regular disc brake quiet.
and that acura dealer gave you a few reasons why you should never ever step foot on their property again. i HATE dealerships like that...
