mig welding with 100% argon
I have a wire welder which i use 25 75 mix. I just purchased a tig welder so i want to get my bottle filled with 100 argon so i can tig weld. I was wandering if i could also mig weld with pure argon that way i dont have to buy another bottle
I only tried that once a long time ago and didnt work out right. I dont believe its supposed to work that way otherwise why would there be a need for mix when mig welding.
flat welds will turn out ok.. but not good... vertical/horizontal/downhill/overhead welds wont work at all..
get 2 bottles.. you wont like switching out the bottle from one machine to the other anyways..
25/75 also allows for a hotter burn for mig (better penetration)

I Will try it its actualy my dad he never uses it so if it dont work he want know anyway lol. It would have to be better than flux core he was using

That's cause is doesn't work...it doesn't allow the weld to penetrate the metal and fuse it properly. The oxygen seperation is needed to react with the surface of the steel.
If you use pure argon, you certainly won't get proper fusion. Sure, it may hold in the short term if its thin steel, but structurally, there's certainly a reason you use a mix. On thicker steel though, forget it...it doesn't work period. If it weren't necessary, then why would anyone use mix...its more expensive.
Get two bottles or use flux in the MIG. Unless your MIG welding aluminum, straight argon is a no-go

I would most definitely use two bottles for this. As mentioned, you also need oxygen to kinda come in contact with the metal. I used two bottles for my last project and greenle tools to cut the ends, that is if this is for piping.
