My CRX accident involving a train today, Z3 Fender Question
While I was on my way to the second junkyard of the day I got in an accident. I was following a Pontiac Firebird down a busted road and the train signals started going. Mr. Domestic took off so I did also, about 20 feet from the crossing Mr. Domestic decided that he didn't want to do it so he slammed on his brakes. Luckily my car is very light and stops quick, I slid about 10 feet and ended up inches from him. From my view it looked like I was under his car, but luckily I wasn't. He gave me the "Hey what was I supposed to do..." hand sign and I put it in reverse and gave my self some room behind him. It was at the time I noticed that the crossing bar was coming down on him. I surely wouldn't want this to hit my car if I was him so I started honking and pointing at it. He must of seen what I was talking about because he slammed it in reverse and hit me demolition derby style. It took a couple tire chirps to get un-wedged from his US bumper and then we got out to take a look at the damage. My passenger fender was dented in, nothing more, he didn't speak much english so I'm guessing he didn't have much (if any) insurance either, so we left with a handshake. Now here's my question, I can get fenders at the junkyard for around 65 a piece but they're black. I'm planning on painting my car either yellow or charchol next spring. Will I be able to prepare black fenders for a different lighter color, or should I just get some ebay stunna style Z3's?
you will need to sand them, prime any bare spots or the whole fender and you will be good... sorry about the accident
Anyone who sees this, how bad is it going from a color like black to a lighter color like yellow? The junkyard just got this CRX in today and it hasn't been gutted by everyone yet. I am one of the very few who can go in during the week, I have a commercial mechanic call me in, I can't go back until Saturday so I have till then to decide.
Just sand off all the old paint down to the metal, prime it ASAP and you'll be fine. Really isn't that hard to do. Take maybe a 240 grit to take all the paint off.
